Guys, Its been a while since I've been on here mostly due to military stuff.

Recently, my truck started running really really rough. After it stalled and wouldnt start I had it towed to the local dealer. That ran diagnostics and found the valve cover gasket shorted which also wiped out one of my injectors.

Now, after approx 300 miles later, the truck is hard to start, no codes, but, I don't hear the fuel pump running anymore with the engine not running and the key in the run position only. I'm almost for certain I remember hearing the pump when I was in the run position without starting the truck. I would assume that if the pump were bad this would almost certainly be my hard start culprit. Am I supposed to hear the pump, how can I test it, any other potential sources to my problem, etc. . ?

However, I dont want to lead anyone into a circle with my suggestions.

Any help wouldbe appreciated?

Isn't the pump in the tank on yours? I dont think you can hear it plus I would think it would shoot a code, mine did I also didn't see anything if the fuel filter been replaced? btw thank you for your military duty

Try "Ticking" the key to the START position WITHOUT starting the truck. You should be able to hear the pump run for about 30 seconds. You can hear the in-tank pumps too.

Thank you!

Is there anything else it could be besides a pump?

There are many things it could be but lets start with the easy stuff. drain your fuel filter housing and remove the lid, then go bump the starter and pump should turn on and fill the bowl pretty fast... . if working then will make a mess so make sure whatever you used to drain the bowl int is still down there and has plenty of room. let us know and we will help you with other steps if the pump IS working...

Many thanks! Wilco

Still following this issue.

What I'm nosticing now is that I get a blue puff of smoke out of the right side exhaust just as it fires/starts with nothing out of the right side. This problem is intermitttent some days its starts great other days its a "little" slow to fire. BTW... no codes.

Ideas?

Where the injection lines meet @ the head... not the line but the fitting closest to the head... if any one of thwm moves, prob found the problem... .
