RogerD on the valet thing. I'm not perzackily sure why, but valet parking is real popular with restaurants here arond Cleveland. I'm not a dually, but I'm a sight longer than an E series Mercedes. I worry a lot about how those boys (and most of them ARE boys) handle the corners as they navigate my darlin' around their lot  :--) but even more about them starting her up cold in the dead of winter. "There's this little orange idiot light, looks kinda like rotini pasta . . . " :(

Tom that reminds me of the time my 98 gasser was on your lot and an older gentlemen came in with his diesel and got out but forgot to put the thing in park and it ran over his legs with the rear tires and smashed into the front of my truck sitting there. At least that was the story the service guy gave me when he called to ask about the brushguard and lights they had to replace on it.

Been there

when I was in the business I was being stupid and in a hurry and didn't want to wait for the lot monkey to prep my sale so I went out to do it myself. Backed out of the bay smack into the front fender of s customers Bonneville in for service. Scratched the grancd cherokee bumper and did about 900 dollars damage to the service car.

Sweating bullets I went and told my owner. He thanked me for being honest and told me to find a way to take care of it. I sat both sutomers down in the same room and admitted my snafu. Found an almost identical vehicle for the new car guy and had him on his way home. Gave the service guy a nice loaner and sent his car out for repairs and fixed a few other dings while we had it. We buffed out the scratch on the cherokee and put it back on the line without problems. aside from our insurance deduct didn't cost us much.

As tomey knows, treat people with respect and honesty, don't be afraid to take the blame for mistakes, and most people will be pretty good about problems.

stuff happens, keep rolling

manuevering in tight spots aint that hard... Sucks for everyone involved. . I know if one of those was the truck I was buying, I would demand a new one, and if they didnt have the one I wanted on the lot, in the color I wanted, Id settle for a different color, for an additional 5k discount ;)

:D

Found out today that they are going to pull/straighten the bedside and get a new felder... .

Not a new bedside?!?!?! I thought that was cheap...

Tom -- I've had quite a few visits to my local dealer's service department and today I went to pick up my truck (3rd serpentine belt at 1200 miles  -- this time with a new power steering pump) after it was out of service for a week and the porter just gave me the keys and walked me to the truck! #ad
Hmm... . Come to think of it, do you think he's trying to tell me something? #ad

Seriously tho -- Driving one of these with a stick is a little tough if you're not used to it. I think it was kindof smart of him to do that. I'd rather drive it out of there if possible anyway so I appreciated it.

(1) Newly hired porter that is not the smartest cookie in the box

(1) Brand new 05 45K Dually truck, just cleaned up and looking purdy

(1) Another dually that a customer is buying

so what happens, does the new buyer find out about the damage or is it just swept under the carpet and sold as brand new??

naw, We have a disclosure that the customer will sign so they know before they take delivery that we repaired it...

Although we wold not do that if we just put an entire bed on... wierd huh?

Thats when you walk back into the paper signing room, grab tha papers and rip them up and walk out.

Or, tell them to fix it and throw in a bed liner and a couple of steps.

It sucked for everyone involved
Well, now, not quite, Tom. If you guys had CA trucks when the 04. 5 first came out, I was planning on flying out to say HELLO, with paper! I think we all appreciate a dealership that does the hard thing to make things right.
