My Hyd jack has finally bit the dust, I'd like to hear from you guys & gals. What capacity should I upgrade to for the front of our trucks? I was using a 2K jack, it picked up the front of my truck(that may be the reason it went tits up) It just didn't lift the truck high enough to use jack stands, and had the noids when working on the front end. My jack was a Craftsmen brand which worked like it should working on my GM B-body.
What say you?

I have a 4ton jack from harbor freight that I like a lot. It's built much heavier than any 3ton and has a good release mechanism making it easy to let a load down slowly.
I would consider a 3ton minimum for a 3/4 ton truck...not so much because a smaller one won't lift it, but because the frame is much heavier which keeps the jack from leaning or deflecting to the side.

I have an old 4ton walker floor jack that's got to be close to 3' long, have rebuilt it myself from off the shelf parts at any hyd. shop. works great and will lift the entire side of the truck if placed right on the frame. Also have a normal size 4ton walker that works fine for lifting a corner of the truck without problems.

I bought a 3 ton Craftsman jack and jack stands set when they where on sale a couple of years ago from Sears. I have had no issues with the jack works great every time that I need to use it.

Thank you fellas, I was thinking of a 3 ton since it won't be used very often on my truck, my car is a different matter. If I have any parts repair under the truck, I'll head to a buddies place that has a 4 post lift. For the like of me I don't know why I didn't have a higher ceiling in the garage so I could have a 2/4 post lift installed. Such a DA at times

I was looking for a good used or reconditioned jack, like they used in the 60's or 70's, but didn't have any luck. You may want to check out Milwaukee Hydraulics. There pricey, but well built. I got tired of replacing the regular auto store specials (off shore?) and bought their model 40. I bought directly from them and had it shipped. They're closed Fridays, but someone will answer your email or return your call Monday to Thursday during business hours.
