Does anyone have the Recon LED bed lights installed and if so what do you think of them ?

I need more lighting in the pickup bed area than the stock Dodge bed light provides.

What other bed lights has anyone tried.

The ruuning lights where kind of disappointing. It's a piece of cardboard with leds stapled on em' with a plastic cover to water proof them... It works I guess, but still cheap IMO... Nothing to write home about that for sure :(

You'd be wayyyyyy better of just using some generic tractor or back up lights in the bed. A strip of little whit LED's wont supply nearly as much as 2 50W lights. My line of fire/ice bar w/ white LED's for back up is more cosemetic then function, and the bed side lights I feel would be the same. .

Thanks for the input guys. These lights are offered by RECON accessories and fit up under the curled lip of the side bed rails. It looks like a good idea, I just don't know if it will light up the bed enough. They aren't very specific as to what is included in the kit, switches etc. I wanted some lights that I could leave on for a couple of hours at a time while I am working out of the bed at night and thought that the LED's wouldn't draw as much power.

I am glad it isn't just me. I would have thought they would have been much brighter. Oh well, live and learn.

If you live in a large metropolitan area, you may want to look for a store that specializes in 'Big Truck' lighting. Also, some of the truck centers have a nice variety of LED's.

Here in Phoenix, we have a store (Light House) that is dedicated to truck lighting. They have many LED's, on display, that you can turn on to see just how bright they are. Their prices seem to be reasonable, also.

I have purchased many lights from them & have been very satisfied. Have 7 LED marker lights on my campershell. They had lights with many more LED's, in them, than some of the other stores had.

Good Luck in your search.

Holysmokes,

Unfortunatlly, I'm 'technologically challenged' & don't own a digital camera. So, I have no way of posting pictures.

I found rather large LED clearance lights at the Light House & mounted amber lights in the upper, front corners of the sides of the campershell. On the rear corners of the sides of the shell, I mounted red LED's.

On the rear of the shell, just above the lifting window & just below the third brake light, I installed 3 smaller red LED's, which, act as clearance lights. My shell is an A. R. E. that is about 4" taller than cab-high shells.

The LED's are quite bright & I'm happy with them. Some may find them a bit abnoxious but, I like the safety factor of being able to really see the truck. Ever since an employee of mine was involved in a head-on collision on a forest road in the Apache/Sitgraves Nat'l. Forest, in broad daylight, I decided to make my truck as visible as possible.

One other thing, The Light House had some white LED's that were so bright that you could hardly look at them. I think they were back-up lights, I believe. Probably about 3-1/2 " to 4" round. Their size may not allow them to be used to light up the bed of the truck, from under the bedrail. However, they may have something that will fit & still be bright.

It seems that the variety of LED's has grown a lot, lately. Lighting stores have catalogs full of them.
