Diesel/Electric Passat in 2006

Pulled up to a 1[diesel] pump station and spoke to a fellow cummins owner about his truck. He said how everything was good except fuel pumps were a problem. I explained how his failure of injection pump was related to his lift pump. I told him that he needed to check his system pressure and demonstrated my manual schrader lift pump check gage. His 24 valve did not have the schrader,so I showed him what he needed to buy. There was a lot he did not know as he thought the lift pump should run all the time the key was on. I showed him the bump start thing and told him about approved oil filters.

After I told him that TDR has all this info and much more that keeps the Cummins hummin', he said he will have to check it out.

Awesome work! I try to tell people about it all the time, but sometimes, they think they know more than you, and that you are just trying to solicit them some crazy website. . That is, until their truck is not running right... They always come back crying!

Example: I replaced a lift pump yesterday morning for a friend. . I keep telling her about the TDR, as well as getting a dang FP gauge, but nope... Then I get a call, and she is telling me how her truck has no balls. . I go to do the bump start trick, and sure enough, Dead Lift pump! She is sold on a FP gauge now! I just wish more people could catch on, and not the hard way!

I've tried to do some recruiting at the gas station, but nobody seemed very interested or knowledgable about their own trucks. I guess that's the point of spreading the word. I think most diesel owners, actually all vehicle owners, don't know jack about their ride nor do they care. They know where the warranty station is and that's about it. I couldn't imagine driving a vehicle and not knowing how the da^^n thing works. I'm no expert but I know the basics.

I was talking to a guy on Oregon a couple of months ago. He had a modified '95 3500 set up with a larger 5th wheel for towing. Lots of nice body mods with a cab extension he had made that had a place to sleep in it. The bed was missing from the truck so he only had the 5th wheel and some fenders with mud flaps he made. Good with sheet metal. He was bragging that he had a "tuned up" pump and was making at least 180 HP. We discussed that for a while. I lifted the hood of my truck and showed him around and explained how things worked. The glare off the chrome may have affected him a little. He wrote down the URL from my TDR window sticker. Not much bragging about his truck's power after that. I think there are a lot of people who don't know what is going in under their hoods that get ripped off by pump "tuners".
