red dash light with lightning bolts?

I sold my 2007.5 CTD and trailer last week because the truck was costing too much to maintain. In order to sell it I had to spend $3500 to replace the turbo. I got a call today from the buyer to say that a red light on the dash came on with, as he described it, "2 lightning bolts". The truck shut down and left him on the side of the road. It started up again okay and after a while it shut down again. I told him that a red light is not a good sign and to get it to a dealer asap.

I do not have the owners manual to check the description of this problem so can someone tell me what it means, possible cause and COST to fix it. I feel responsible to pay the buyer for the repair.

Manual on my 2013 says Electronic Throttle Control. Says usually it us drivable, but if the problem is bad, May require towing.
