It is your ass if you are caught and the place that you bought it from. you will get a fine and the they will be fined by the gallon. so beware!!!!!!!!!! The dye is only for high sulphur fuel thats why our fuel we use is straw colored it is low sulphur.

Your correct JHutson, what is the fines? I hear its pretty steep, upwards of $10k?? To high for my taste, tried 2 tanks with it in this truck when I first bought it. Everytime I drove past a cop the ole pucker factor kicked in. I decided it wasnt worth it to me. To each their own though!!

The fine varies from state to state and is usually a fixed amount plus so much per gallon of tank capacity. I saw the actual fine schedule for one of the western states, I don't remember what state, utah/nevada/arizona/california, and remember thinking it would end up around $1200 for a pickup. I had a friend who had to put 10 gallons of red in an semi to get to fuel station and was checked at the Utah Arizona port of entry before his tank cleared out, this was around 1996 and his fine was about $2500. I have heard of huge fines in some of the eastern states.

My fuel guy once told me the fine in these parts will go as high as $10k for each gallon the offending vehicle holds!!:eek: So if you are using an auxiliary tank like a lot us do WATCH OUT!!:{

I've never heard the motor oil or trannie fluid thing. Does the motor oil really work in disguising the red fuel, and if so how?

Long standing myths on lubricity or performance that started, but really only to hide using taxed fuels.

The motor oil darkens the fuel. Trannie fluid or 2 stroke oil adds a different red tint. Most times the sight glass is only used if fuel comes clear. Other than clear gets the chemical test.

I've noticed the minimum fines start at $10k for commercials.

I just suck it up and pay the road tax. Truck burns less much fuel than this old house.
