Can anyone give me an approximate price for the red 24v valve cover? I assume they are available thru Cummins, but they are closed today and I need an approximation. I have a line on a used one and need to know what to offer. :D

Thanks

Tim

StateBull... new ones up here in the Northwest are $101. 00 from Cummins. If you wanted rush shipping, its another $13. 00.

Hope this helps!

Rob Hanson and Big Red!

I was quoted $106. 67 last Friday at Cummins Great Lakes. I was also told that Cummins has raised all of their prices as of April 1st.

B, I want, no I need, no I gotta have one  Is it true that your giving away a free fuel line upgrade with each purchase :D

Those of you that have or have handled one of these valve covers in person, how difficult would it be to strip the paint off? I like the valve cover but the red has gotta go... ... ... ...

Kat,

Cummins offers them in two colors... red or black.

That won't do either... ... . its gotta be blue :p

Seriously, does it look like a pain in the butt to strip it?

Seriously Kat, it's a pain to strip the red "paint" from the Cummins valve cover. I would bet (quite a bit) the coating in question is a powder coat... it sure looks like it... and it sure as he!! sands off like it.

..... ditto for me as well... the red has got to go! How do ya like them apples Hanson? :D

Kat, if your intent is to remove the red (entirely) for painting I would have the powder coating chemically stripped or glass beaded (assuming no other work/process to the valve cover is intended.

If the paint is the same as the red paint on the lettering on the early 24v valve covers (aluminum colored) then you can strip it easy. I used a chemical paint stripper from Eastwood product to get mine off and if came off no problem. It is EXTREMELY harsh stuff though, you need large thick rubber gloves, etc. Another option would be brake fluid - that'll strip paint off in no time, just brush it on, let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe the paint right off. This works on metals but if the newer valve cover is plastic or some other material it may not work.

Kat,

That is what my intention was. There is a black cover on ebay, but the guy wants $100. Ad said that it fit from 94-01:rolleyes: and said that it was a $300 part from the dealer. (maybe from the local Dodge dealer!!!) Anyway I informed him that it only fit the 98. 5- present, and he said the dealer gave him the original information on price and fit.

Anyway, back to my reply on strip and paint. It doesn't look hard at all. When I did my injectors, there was a small portion of the cover that I noticed had been rubbing against something and the paint came right off. I was going to sand it down and get a half pint of flame red and shizamm... RED VALVE COVER!!!:D The only thing is, I don't know it the covers are painted or powdercoated. Either way it wouldn't be a problem.

John... I like those apples! That is why God invented Chocolate and Vanilla... we are not all the same. Doesn't make my ideas or your ideas any better or worse. Just different.

If I didn't like red, I would have to sell a bunch of rigs right now!

Only thing I don't like is opportunists that take advantage of people for their personal gain. Some people jack up the prices.

Choose your vendors wisely!

The cover could probably be cromed, but like you say ramfan, anything for $$$. The cover is aluminum, so if you had the right resources and enough time you could polish it to a high luster. Only thing that would cause havoc would be in between the lettering.

Stopped into Cummins Northwest in Renton, WA today and they have one Red cover (part number 3943668) in stock for $106. 64. I too wish Cummins offered it in Cummins Blue. I know this info is repetative... sorry.
