Ok, this engine is a great, it's a cummins, not a dodge. So I want to show it off with a red valve cover. What is involved with this change? Do I have to run a bed a silicone, and a new gasket? Where can I get one for a good price on one?

AJB

You get them from your local Cummins shop and they are under a hundred bucks. Just make sure they know its for a Dodge truck or you will get the oil fill hole in the back of the cover... ... ... Pete

I am at work, but if I recall correctly, the last three numbers for the Red Valve cover is 668. I can look up the other numbers for ya later if ya need them. I paid 101 dollars at CumminsNW.

I went to my Cummins here to ask about the red cover and they said everyone now-a-days just paint the cover with the same red (they sell the paint) paint and let it dry then take a grinder to the top of it and grind all the raised lettering... ... ... cummins etc... He showed me one and I must say it looks very, very sharp.

hhhmmmmmm, I wonder if they sell the blue paint??? This would look different, and very  !!

I have no idea where the local Cummins shop is around S. W. Houston so I guess I get the phone book.

Thanks guys,

AJB

I just ordered my Red Valve Cover from Cummins Metropower In Connecticut. $106. 00 plus shipping. They will ship it direct to my house. If anybody else needs one 860-529-7474 is there number, the part number is: 3943668

I asked if it needed a gasket and he said no and i left it at that, but a question to anyone who has installed one, does the cover come with a new gasket, or does the design not use one? i just want to know what i should have on hand once it arrives.

thanks for website

Thomas,

Thanks for that web site. I had no idea they had any around here. I looked in the phone book, but didn't really know what I was looking for.

EMD, when I changed to the red cover the gasket was not hurt and it sealed like new.

P. S. thanks for the reply on the Ign. Sw. wiring... ... . Steve

Cool, thanks guys. There nothing worse then getting a new accesory and then when you go to install it, you realise your missing something you need.

Can you get the valve covers in different colors? I would think black would look really good, especially on my red truck.

There was a thread about this before. I seem to recall someone saying that they offer the valve cover in black or red. Am I just dreaming this?

1) the valve cover gasket holds up very well to numerous R&Rs of the valve cover, I personally verified this on my own 24v. Do not screw it up as they are not cheap... as I remember the Cummins parts man told me they were $68. for a replacement.

2) the Cummins valve covers are available in both red and black (as SFord stated).

3) the newer Cummins valve covers are shipped with a dark gray protective coating sprayed over the entire outside of the valve cover... don't worry, it peels right off. It also comes shipped in a clear plastic bag for further protection (however, by NO MEANS is it UPS proof!)

The valve cover on my 2001. 5 is black.

The Cummins valve covers say "Cummins", not Dodge like the factory ones. Also, the Cummins ones are heavier duty.
