You can get the red valve cover from Cummins for around $90. Here's a pic of it on my truck. I have had it on there since April.

You guys that have done other modifications to your valve cover, how hard would it be to powder coat one of these a different color? I on't mind having the Dodge cover, but I was thinking about getting one coated orange to match the truck's paint. Would I have to remove all the existing paint first? Should I just give it to a powder coater and let them do all the prep work?

The red cover part number is 3943668. Other parts numbers are red, but the oil fill is in the rear instead of front.
The cost from Cummins NW, as of a month ago, was $101. 00, plus 13 percent for express ordering. You might want to check the valve cover out before paying... my first one was beat up pretty badly. I had them re-order it.

Thanks Rob and Evan that was something that I have wanted since I saw it posted on Evan's truck. I immediately contacted my local dealer (who happens to be Chevrolet) and ordered it!! It came in at a better price then the approximately 100 clams others have claimed, about 12% lower.

Thanks!

How long did it take to swap the covers? Did the gasket need to be replaced? Could this cover be obtained in black? Thought that the newer models came in black. Currently have the silver, I guess, one and do not like the looks of it.

Cam--you lucky dog!!! I tried to order one yesterday(San Francisco) and Cummins is waiting for them and didn't know when they be in--next month maybe---well it will give me something to do later on if I ever get one---chris

The stock valve cover gasket is a quality, reusable piece. When you remove your valve cover you'll discover it is of considerably higher grade than the ones found on your typical small-block Chevrolet #ad

I've seen some BOMB-a-holics take their valve cover off 3 or 4 times, reusing the stock gasket #ad

5 minutes, start to finish. Pull the bolts, remove the cover, put new one on, tighten bolts. Be sure to tighten from the center bolt outward. You get better gasket seating that way. Don't worry about torquing it, just take note to how tight it was when you pulled the bolts.

Just for comparison, I got my cover for $85 plus tax. Gasket was quoted at $39.

The Cummins cover is also available in black, I see them all the time on motorhomes. The red version is supposedly factory equipment on the ISB300.

csutton7,Cummins had to order the cover, they said 4-5 weeks.
Evan & Vaughn thanks for the install tips, and i'm glad that the old gasket maybe reuseable saves me $45,that savings is going to be put towards my Banks High-Ram. Thanks again Rob for answering all my questions on the High-Ram

If you guys are in more of a hurry for the valve cover, have your branch do a branch search. Some dealerships are sitting on them. I ordered mine on Feb. 5th and just picked it up today. My dealer told me there were more scattered around the US. Just an idea.

I'm glad I can delete how many times I've edited this post. Well I get it know.

Soler... let's see if I can help ya a bit...

First, get your engine serial number... cummins wont even look at a computer screen til they have it! #ad

Try this national number: 1-800-343-7357, then take option 4. Tell them what you are after and the difficulties you are experiencing.

If that does not work, try Cummins NW, phone 1-425-235-3440. When I got mine a few months ago, they were 101. 62, plus 13 percent for next day shipping from their plant to Cummins NW. Even with the extra shipping from here, it would be cheaper than what you were quoted... but you might mention that we get them here for that price, and see what they say.
Cummins NW said it might be several months til delivery for me, but when I ponied up the extra 13 percent, they said they would have one in a few days. They did, but the first one was pretty beat up, so I had them re-order it.
If this doesn't work, email me and we will go from there!
