Saw a pic of a 4bt cummins with red valve covers in a 87 ford van. While I drove truck in and out of CMEP in Columbus,IN, I saw them use different valve covers for the Ford orders. they would just have cummins on it, instead of dodge etc. I'm sure I can just remove the old peeling black paint off my valve covers and paint them red. Few questions, did cummins produce red valve covers? How should I remove the old black paint? What kind of paint-auto, high temp- should I use? If cummins did ship them out red, anyone have a part# or name for the red paint? Thanks. Bill... . u ask why? Hey I want a redheaded cummins!!

Yes, Cummins makes red paint for fire pumps and the like. The color is Apex Red and I'll get the part # for you tomorrow... we have about a dozen spray cans at work for touching up the fire pumps that we're responsible for.

Joe H

Edit: As promised, the Cummins Service part number is 3163075.

TTT... Edit didn't move the post up... LOL :D

Oh yea, and if you want to save the hassle of stripping the old paint off, brand new valve covers from Cummins are less than $10 each. (I think I paid $6 for mine)

Powdercoating?

If you want a great looking, durable finish, find a powdercoating place. Most have a plethora of colors available and should be able to hook you up. they usually sand or bead blast the metal, so the powder sticks to it. You can use paint stripper prior to painting or dropping off at the powder coating place. ;)
