Redline MTL in 5600

Of course you know what I'm using in my 6-speed, and it is smooth as silk, even in the cold.

Wayne, I understand your position and I am sure that the Amsoil is as good if not better than the mopar lube. Just with my luck, if I had a failure they would do a lube analysis and claim that it was the lube that caused it. I just don't want the possible hassle Based on Whitenights dad's problem, I am even having my dealer do the oil and filter changes. I have a great dealer and based on the service and low cost I want any warranty issues to be hopefully resolved with a pleasant smile, that is also because I am such a great customer and they have done all of the maintenance on my truck since they sold it to me. Only time will tell if this scenario ends up to be reality.

WAYNE you're a good guy, and I love ya - but we will ALWAYS come around to this SAME debate:



WHO of reputation, unquestionable integrity and capability *BESIDES* Amsoil states that Amsoil IS of "equal quality" to the DC spec stuff for he NV-5600? What testing have they done to determine this, and WHERE can those test results be seen - as well as DC's blessing on its use? And no, we need NOT see DC's or NV's test results, as long as we use what they themselves use and specify - at least as far as warranties are involved...



And yeah - the same goes for other lubes as well, including the Redline stuff...



Guy wanted to sell me the Brooklyn Bridge once - probably was a great deal - at least *HE* said it was...

Not only that but the transmission no longer has decals on it stating what to use or the warranty will be void as they said in the past. I'm using the MTL and liking it quite well.

Like everything else, it boils down to FAITH, if you don't have test data. Even then, you have to have faith in the tests. .



Being that Gary is an atheist and all (J/K), he won't be happy until every lube is tested in accordance with the slew of SAE and ATSM standard he deems necessary.



Let's keep this in perspective: ANY modern lube designed specifically for manual transmissions will work well enough to protect the transmission for the most part. The DC-spec stuff is good, as are many others.



When we seek improvements, we need to keep in mind that they are marginal, and NOT the difference between INFINITE transmission life and INSTANT transmission failure... .



All the detail stuff is window dressing if you think about it.

I think you are right about this. If it wasn't for the hassle on the possible warranty issues I would be open to trying something other then the Mopar stuff. I bought the DSS steering stabilizer knowing that after adding that modification the 3 year 36 K mile warranty on my steering would no longer apply, but the gain and the fact that the improvement in steering feel and also the fact that the steering should stay better longer out weighed the warranty decision. The DSS made a big difference I don't see the lube making a big difference, of course my transmission shifts just fine. If I had a transmission that did not shift correctly then I would first have DC try to repair.

NAHhh - that's not my point - I simply object to the statements that Brand "X" is good, simply because the MAKERS of Brand "X" *say* it is! - OR simply because Joe Blow used it HIS vehicle, and it didn't instantly disintegrate... The statements and claims of excellence made by those making or selling a product frequently should be viewed with some degree os suspicion - after all, there are LOTS of guys claiming Fords are better than Dodges, too!



And WE all know how wrong and slanted THEIR opinion is!



SO, what's WRONG with asking for or expecting SOME form of data or proof for claims of excellence or superiority?

That being said, i'm a firm believer in amsoil, use it in just about everything. I rebuilt my dirtbike engine and couldn't believe the lack of wear inside, i used amsoil in it from day 1. That being said i don't run it in my pickup yet either. Rotella is good oil, my father in law gets it cheap too

Well I gotta say this, I just changed my trans lube to Redline MTL, I can't believe the difference, it's like a liqued silencer. My trans has 84,000 rough miles on it, and I have tried several different lubes in it. It was always noisey, and somewhat of a challenge to get into gear(s), espiecially at the drag strip, and at the low end of 5th (direct) it was really noisey.



Now with the new lube, it's much quieter, smoother, easier, and quicker to shift, I never thought I would notice such a difference, or would be so inclined to post about, but d@mn, I am happy! Whoever was the first person to do this and post about it, THANKS!!



With all the noise and such with the other lubes I've tried, I wonder how much damage my trans has suffered already? BTW, when I drained the old crap out, I didn't find anything but lube, no metal, and the magnets (I have three of them) only had the usual collection.



Also, I have no "data" to back this claim, my ears, and the shifter tell me it's good.

Rob... . Your'e welcome!!! Peter of South Bend CLutches told me about this sometime ago, and I got a lot of flack about "its not recommended" it will void your warranty, bla,bla,bla etc. Try adding some Prolong it even gets better!!

I never doubted you. Where do I get the prolong? (trust me, I am nervous about putting an, "As seen on TV" product in my truck, so tell me why I should?)

I used prolong in my '66 mustang. (It was a 325+ HP daily driver with over 150,000 miles on it. ) Prolong was the ONLY additive I've used that I could actually tell worked. Engine ran smoother, and I got about 1. 5mpg more. But I noticed that the benefits only lasted for about 2500 miles. I was using it in my engine oil and I was very impressed. I haven't ever used their transmission stuff, but if it works like the engine stuff, it is definitely worth it.

Prolong

Prolong, is found out west here at, Checkers Auto Stores, Auto Zone etc. you don't need to add if weary, but if you do, add the 8oz. bottle that says for manual & Automatic trans. No need to drain to add, just undo the top nut of the PTO cover and squeeze in with a lube pump. It seems to make the trans even better, because it's a friction modifiyer. I plan on changing out trans fluid every 20,000 miles or so.

When you guys switched to the Red line did you flush out the transmission or just dump the old and fill with the Red line?????
