I have ordered the exhaust blanket from Geno's. I understand that will reduce noise somewhat. I have heard that a lot of the engine noise comes from the injection pump area. Could I use a similar blanket to cover up that area or would this cause these components to possibly overheat. I sure wouldnt want this to happen.

Thanks

Ken,
Good to have you on board.

See "Products Reviews" at the TDR website homepage. A member here "illflem" tested an egine noise reduction system. It consists of noise reducing blankets. It not an inexpensive product. But looks like a good one. #ad

Ken, the injection pump noise issue only applies to the Bosch P7100 mechanical pump.

I have the Hitco/Geno's Garage exhaust blanket and like it very much. It does reduce engine noise. As much as I like it I may elect to leave it off when I get my ATS manifold back from the ceramic coater... I'd hate to cover up such a cool looking piece. #ad

I still believe the largest source of engine noise is beneath the oil pan although, I don't see this as being a very large contributor of interior noise.

I also have the Geno's Blanket abd it did reduce the noise of the engine alittle but the biggest thing for me is covering that rust OE manifold.

Ken:

You may want to check with Mark
Kitchell about the "blanket. "
When we were up/out at the "Scheid
Diesel" Rally in Terre Haute, Ind.
back in Sept. he discovered that
his exhaust manifold was cracked
after arriving. He had one of those
"blankets" over his engine/exhaust
manifold. I don't recall if he felt
the blanket may have been the exact
cause of the crack but I know we
discussed it.

You may want to e-mail him about it.
BTW, I believe his truck his pretty
heavily "BOMBED. "

Quiet the engine? That would be like putting a speed governor on a Viper. Of course that is just my opinion.

And to borrow a phrase from BlackDog, I think,

I'm with quadzilla,

But I'm the kind that won't turn on my radio because I can't hear my diesel when the radio is on... #ad

Ken Tenpenny, I have the exhaust blanket and am happy with it. I have the 700 pump and I covered it and the HP lines with a sheet of 1/8" rubber. I also put a layer under the plastic valve cover. The cover over the HP fuel pump had the most effect on noise abatement, after I installed it, I and my co-pilot went to the store, within a mile down the road she said "what did you do to the truck, I don't have to turn the radio up so far and I can hear the turbo whistle louder" I had not informed her of the modifacation before we left. I have had the HP pump covered for over two Years now, No problems. Happy Rammin, Dave
