I used to buy nothing but Redwing. Good boot. I went to Durango for cost. The only problem was they were a bear to break in. Finally got the hang of it. You buy your boots in the summer. Get ready for work,put em on and go out in the backyard and stand in a bucket of water for ten minutes. Wear em the rest of the day until they dry. Just like they were part of your feet.

Whites: last pair of boots you'll buy

I had a pair of steel toed Redwings that I thought I'd never get rid of, until my brother messed them up. I decided to take the financial plunge, measure my feet and calves, and wait 6 weeks for my new Whites boots.



The boots arrived and I felt like I was walking on coke bottles for a couple of weeks and turned socks red on the occasional 15 mile hike, but I'll never own another pair of boots. Brown, 14" high, elk hide (rough out), steel toed loggers with a deep lug Vibram sole. In about 4 hours (6 a. m. ), I'm going to stomp 3 or 4 miles unil I get my limit of dove. Then I'll hike the rest of the day (10 miles max) looking for my limit of quail. When I get back tonight, I'll forget to take them off... ... they're that comfortable.



Whites rebuilds these things for next to nothing. I know a whole heard of Hotshots in the north of Arizona that spend their summers in Whites. When they get melted soles, burned uppers, missing hardware, they send them back. Whites keeps the measurements on file and usually rebuilds the boot for under $100.

Previous info on White's is correct. They are expensive initially, but worth the investment if you care for them properly. They offer a somewhat limited range of styles. I bought my last pair of Red Wings about ten years ago, and then switched to Danner. I hope your Red Wings work out well for you, as the style that I wore did not for me. I believe that, dollar for dollar, there is no better "off the shelf" boot than Danner. I will continue to buy them.

Redwings are the finest out there. I have one pair I have owned since I stopped growing (about 8 years) and look like heck but still work and no holes. I have another daily pair that I have had for nearly 3 1/2 and they look great. Just make sure to oil them 3 times a year and you will be very happy. They are a pain to break in though.



Look at the Irish Setter model. Perfect all-around boot I think.

They are simply the best shoe ever made... I have a pair of logger boost I regulary wear, and they have taken a beating. They were pricey ($220), but have proven to be the most reliable and comfortable boot I have had. They served me well in the construction field, and are serving me well now as a diesel mechanic. I'd never own anything else. Plus my 13E's sound pretty heft when going up or down some wood stairs.

To all who do like Redwings, checkout www.sierratradingpost.com. They are a clearinghouse of sorts for high end outdoor gear for the most part. You never know what models or sizes they will have but some great bargains. Good for Carhartt stuff too.

Wolverine Durashocks not Duramax ( it probably won't last as long as the boots. ) For the money 1 C note you will possibly have a pair of boots that feel like a good pair of sneakers and your feet will thank you at the end of the day. Personally, I like Durashocks better that Justins, these are a roper style boot.

I've had both Danner and Red Wing - they're both comfortable, but I think the Danners were lighter. Red Wing has a better warranty I believe. I'm wearing Doc Martins right now... Heavy and comfortable... My vote is for Danner.

I just bought my 4th pair of Caterpillar work boots from Sears. I don't wear them out. I tear them up working on escalators. I tried one pair of Red Wings. They were a very well made pair of work boots but the soles were hard on my feet. After spending $140 for them and telling the salesman this, he said "well ya need these sole inserts for $40 bucks. " Maybe so but the Cats are comfortable and durable for $123. They're made by Wolverine.
