Hey guys

Replacing my hitch, so I'm looking info and or opinions on 15K Reese hitch,

and why every one thinks the 16K is so much better. because there is quite a bit of $$ difference. I hope someone will enlighten me because you can't tell much from pics in a catalog or the net.

Will be towing up to 18 K

Thanks in advance:)

You're towing up to 18K and wondering why a 16 versus 15K hitch... ... ... ... ... ... . ????? Maybe you should be looking at a 20K and stop confusing the rest (me) of us.

Towing 11K

Sorry, stated that wrong, only towing 11K max , truck weighs 7K:eek:

I really do reread these many times b4 posting, sounded good the 1st time!!

i wonder if the price difference is due to testing requirements and/or liabilities or just the fact that the 16k puts you into the commercial category (at least in CA) as 15k is the max 5er weight for non-com use.

the 16k is a four way pivot head which is a great help when hookin' up on unlevel surfaces. Don' know about the 15k specs on that point.

Thanks for the replies:

So the 15K head won't seperate from the hitch for removal ?

Has anybody heard or seen any type of failure of the 15K?

TIA

I run the 16K on my 06 Dualie, pull an 11k Wildcat. Hooks esay and removable leaving just the rails in the bed.

Whoa. I'm confused, I installed a new 16K in my truck last summer, it does not have the 4-way pivot, it can be removed by moving the four levers to release position and picking up. Leaves the bed pretty much unobstructed. It also can be removed in two pieces. I had a 14k in my 99, didnt have pivot, could be removed in two pieces, left rails in the bed though. I kinda like the non pivoting hookup, it keeps the tailer off the bed rails in uneven situations. bg

Had a 15K Reese Trailboss and didn't care that much for it. It is a basic "bar" type hitch and you get a lot of "chucking" with the fifth wheel kingpin going back and forth in the hitch while starting and stopping. My Trailboss also had a lot of wear, on the bar, even though I only towed with it 5 to 6 times a year for 10 years. They are relatively cheap hitches, that will probably do the job, but they are not a "higher quality" hitch... JMHO ... ;)
