Reese classic 18K

I just bought a used Reese Classic 18K fifth wheel hitch for my truck today. It was on a '96 and mine is a '97. I got most of the measurement off the '96 but I would like to find a set of install instructions for it. If anyone out there has some instructions for a Reese hitch that they could copy I would appreciate it

Bob, funny that you should ask, I was doing research this afternoon for the 16000 Reese. Did you buy a 5er? I sold my tow trailer a couple months ago, and am just looking right now for a fith wheel. I got such a good deal on a tail gate and the Reese 1600 double tilt that I couldn't pass it up.

Thanks klenger and Ron. After I posted I found the Reese web site also, but it doesn't show info on the 18K, must be an older one.

Ron, you find a fiver you like yet? We are leaning hard toward a Mountaineer bunk house (318BHS), but the couch on the 297RKS is REALLY comfy http://keystone-mountaineer.com/index.html?page=floorplans2. We really like the bedroom slides with the front closets, lots of storage. Talked to a Mountaineer rep at the last Portland RV show and we are really impressed with the quality and value. But it seems that all the manufacturers have upped the quality in the last few years.

The rails should all be the same. I had a 14k and bought a used 20k and in it went on my rails. So as long as you have the insructions for mounting the rails you should be fine.

Bob, I am leaning twards a Montana fifth wheel, but haven't found the "just right one". Anythime you are down visiting the in-laws you can come over and we will tackle installing the hitches. I would also like to talk to you about bumping up my timing.

The Mountianeer is a good choice, the kids will really like the bunk house.

I hope to take delivery of my new '04. 5 this week and plan to install, or have installed, a 5er hitch. Is it very difficult to install one? Where is the best price? I would not hesitate to do the install myself but have never done it. I am planning to sell my 27' Gulf Stream and step up to a 30' so a 16 to 18K hitch should be large enough.

Do it yourself. Measure twice, drill once. You will do a better job than a "professoinal installer".

I will add to your Montana opinion..... I tow many different brands all over the country. I have never had a problem with a Montana. Also when the dealer does his inspection before signing for the unit, it always seems they find far less wrong with them than the rest of the units. I would put Montana at the top of the list for the money. Actually I think the quality and the way they tow is better than many more expensive units.
