Reese Classic 20K install 3gen

Got the hitch layed out today, it can only go one place because the forward L brackets have to go against the Bed rail.



My question is for the front L brackets, where is the hole you fish the wire through for the bolts? I found the hole in the frame near the rear, but what about a hole near the front?



On the DS front L bracket, I have to remove the holder for the emergency brake cable. Maybe I will drill a hole in the bracket so it will go back on when done. ON the last 3 2gen trucks this just bracket just missed. Didn't even look at the PS front yet.



For my 3500 SRW I have special brackets for the rear mounts that go on the inside of the frame. Sure looks like the LR shock has to come off to drill the holes?

I had to fish the bolt all the way from the rear hole for the front bracket. I drilled the rear by just dropping the spare. My front bracket cleared the cable support. How far back are you mounting it?? My front bracket is against the backside of the bed cross member and I didn't have to remove the shock.

My DS front bracket goes against the back of the bed sill, and the cable hanger is in the way. the hanger would have to be back around 1" more to clear the bracket. In fact it covers the bolt hole far enough that I might be able to drill a hole in the bracket for this hanger bolt, but that would move the hanger 1/2" out which might screw up the hanger location.



The front bracket has to go against the bed sill so the rear bolts can pass through the rear bed sill. This puts the hitch on center, or at most 1" ahead of the axle. According to Reese's directions, this is the only way it will fit.

It sounds like you are mounting it in the same place I mounted mine. My cable support is directly under the be support which is a bout 11/2" in front of the bracket. The difference could be that I am an 05 and a 4 x 4. You should not have any problem moving the support on way or the other.

Hitch mount

I just installed a Valley kit on an 06 megacab today. It is a no frame drill system that uses the existing holes in the frame. The rear mount is installed angled around the overload spring. Of the three I have installed this was by far the easiest.

You know what else it could be, the directions said to use the long L bracket on the front, and that is the only one I tried.



As for the Valley, I already have the Reese Classic 20K. Looking at the Valley rails it looks like the Reese might fit it but I never did see any info.

Just finished the install.



Reese Front brackets have to be reversed from drawing.



ON DS front the "L" bracket covered the hole for the cable support, but there is 2 holes, one for the bolt, one for the "anti spin" part of the cable support. I just lowered the cable support and put the bolt into the "anti spin" hole, now the anti spin just hits the bottom of the frame.



On DS rear bracket, I had to drill an additional 1/4" hole for the little plastic thing that holds the wire harness away from the shock.



Besides that, everything went fine. 8 hr of work, but saved $500. 00.



then I took the rails back out so I can get it Line-X'd next week.
