Hey Guys,

I have been searching the forums concerning the above topic, but no luck so far. I have read many topics concerning the issue of frame mods on the later model Dodges when trying to install a fifth wheel hitch. And yes, I would love to have the B&W setup, but like many others I already have the Reese hitch that has been used only one time, so I would like to get some use out of it.

So what I'm wandering is if anyone has used/ installed one of the Reese custom install kits? I'm assuming that this product is Reese's "no drill" solution. I was also wandering why Reese doesn't call-out a part# for the 3500 SRW series trucks.

Thanks for any info.

I have a 3500 SRW on order, and I own a reese classic 20K.

I called reese about the now drill option. they said they made one at one time, but since your allowed to drill the frame they don't sell it anymore. Now my 3500 requires special brackets that bolt to the frame (I think to the frame inside) so you can mount the hitch around the helper spring bumpers. I bought this kit, as well as a new bolt kit but I am using my old rails and hitch.

The only thing that I am disappointed in (after reading the directions) is a couple of the rail bolts pass through the bed support web (under the bed). This requires drilling a larger hole in the bed in these 2 locations, then dropping a spacer into the hole.

if my truck ever comes I will check out maybe shorting the spacer allowing me to put a washer on top of this hole to keep dirt out. Check out the directions on Reese's website page 10.

Thanks for the replies guys.

TowPro: I'm currently installing the Reese part# 50040 in my 2500. I did install the spacer in the two locations on the front rail, and it did pass through one of the bed supports, but it also had a flat piece, ~2" square, under the nut. So I wasn't left with any open holes that would allow dirt to enter. So the new 06' don't have the same frame mod restrictions as the 03'-05' models?

thanks BBeddow, I hope to get to drill the holes soon to see how it works out! I would prefer not to have holes that dirt can get down through and lay in the Bed support.

My plans are to drill all the holes, get everything lined up, then pull it all off and get a bed liner sprayed on, then put the rails back on :)
