Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch Install

I need a little help, has anyone installed a Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch (16K) in a 2006 long box? I have talked with the folks at Reese. Not that I don't trust them but... I also wrote to Dodge (lotsa' help there!).

Any help would Oo. be appreciated

Just had a Reese hitch moved from my furd to a 2004 longbed I bought in AZ. Part of the deal was the dealer had to move the hitch. After getting my truck back I got on the net and found they left out 4 bolts. If you go to the reese website you can print out the instructions for installing there hitch with all the dimensions.

There are also some NO DRILL brackets available for reese. Not sure of the size of your truck. The link below is for 1500/2500 ram. 3500 uses a different set up. See what you think. A little spendy but a time saver.

Had a local guy out here (Eckhart Hitches) install mine and he said it was no problem on the install.

I first went to my RV place and the guy jerked me around for a couple of weeks (I think that he just did not want to do the Dodge because he kept complaining about the Dodges being a pain in the *****)

I installed the rails on my 05 drw it was easier on my 05 than it was on the 01 I had

I was told these are not for Reese rails, but for hidden hitch rails which are different.



I have the 3500, which requires an additional set of brackets for the rear. These new brackets mount to the inside of the frame. Once you get everything lined up, its a pretty easy job. Just follow the dodge TSB about drilling holes in the frame. The L brackets have holes in them that are to close to the frame edge to meet the dodge TSB.



Check the paperwork first, but If I recall, the front brackets (L brackets) have to go up against the rail under the bed, then the front set of bolts of the rear rail go through a rail under the bed. This set of bolts require a 1" hold be drilled because there are spacers that drop down into the bed rail from the top. I kept my old rails and hitch, but bought a new install kit (all new bolts and L brackets) plus this extra kit of brackets for the rear rail (that replace the L brackets that go on the rear of you don't have the spring perches of the 3500. )
