Reese Titan hitch

Is anyone using the Reese titan hitch on their first gen truck? Looking into replacing the rusty old hitch that is currently on the truck and the titan would be one of the heaviest duty hitches availiable. Also I believe it will fit up to a 98 truck, so I can always switch it to a newer truck.

are you talking about the three piece 15,000 lb hitch? I just got one of those put on my truck but i can't remember for sure if that was the brand. I can't look at the truck since it's in oregon and i'm in korea sorry. But if that's the one the guy that i bought it from said there not a hitch that can touch it right now.

I belive that this is a different one piece hitch with a 2. 5" reciever. It is make by Draw-Tite / Reese and runs about $265.

oh ok I think the hitch that i bought was a putnam hitch and was rated at 15,000 lbs.

How do you like the hitch. also do you remember if it hangs down real low under the bumber or is it somewhat hidden?

i like the hitch alot and it is actually somewhat hidden under there. I think the cost was somewhere around $250 in las vegas.

found it at another online hitch site for $170 but there it list the rating at 10,000lb WC and 14,000lb WD. and on the putnum site the list it as 15,000lb WC 15,000lb WD. I wonder the difference between the putnum and titan hitches are if only differences in liability concers. The titan does have a 2 1/2" reciever where the putnum has a 2" reciever.

I have a 14,000 pound Draw-tite. It's holding up fine but if I had it to do over again I would get the Reese Titan-V it just looks a lot stronger. The few dollars I saved weren't worth it.

I'm using a Draw-tite I bought around 7 years ago. It works fine. It uses the standard 2" square for the ball mount. The heavy rated mounts are solid 2" square stock. Advantage is that you can plug any standard ball mount into the hitch, without needing the adapter that the Titan requires to bush down from 2. 5". The Draw Tite ball mounts use 1" thick flat stock. Quite strong.



Both products should be excellent quality and entirely satisfactory. Both far exceed the rating of the stock Dodge hitch which is 500 lb tongue, 5000 lb weight carrying mode; 1000 tongue and 10,000 lb in weight distributing mode [with the spring bars].



Be sure to remove any wax from the frame where the hitch mounts (you folks with 1994-early 97 Rams) because the hitch needs to be clamped into place, and not rely on shear strength of the bolts alone. the Draw Tite I have uses 4 bolts per side, 9/16 x 12 thread.

The titan V

You will need a pretty hefty drill and bit to install the Titan V on a 1st Gen. In spite of what some advertisements say, the Titan V hitch is not a bolt-on on the 93 models, it's actually made for the later versions (at least that's what is said on the instructions that came with mine) You have to drill a 3/4" hole at the back of each chassis rail, which is not fun, working under the truck... Other than that, it works well and you can peel off the free advertising on the receiver cover and put a cut down TDR sticker there... .

Drilling

I installed the TitanV on my 92. Lotsa drilling. with a huge bit. I did the first one on my back... actually the first half of the first one. Then I got out the floor jack and after getting the hole started by hand, I would put the floor jack under the drill. Didn't take much to drill the rest of the holes. Needless to say, that bit was done when the job was.

Had to drill a couple new holes and enlarge some of the factory holes when installing my draw-tite.
