Hey guys, i just have a few questions about my truck, first of all im aware the truck does not tell you when it is regening, anyway, besides that i believe my truck has been regening for the last 4 days or so. Saturday morning i got that smell that you get with a regen, and i could see high exhaust temps as the air was wavy just ahead of and above the tailpipe.

Anyway, how long should a regen last, ive driven it the last 4 days, about 15 to 20 miles each time i drive it for about 20 minutes to and from work. Just tonight i put my hand in front of the tailpipe and it was FIRE HOT, so i know, again, or still the truck is in a regen mode. What can/should i do to fully finish out this regen and whats the requirements for regen time and length of time/miles when another regen is required (obviously fluctuates depending on driving style)

It sounds like the DPF is just barely getting up to temp to begin a regen when you shut it down. It takes time for everything involved to reach the proper temp before the ECM will even command a regen. With your short drive cycles, active regen has only been going on for a few minutes with each trip and will continue until it burns off enough soot to satisfy it.

Since you're now aware that it is trying to regen, you should drive it for 45 min to an hour at speeds above 45 mph. Another option is to get an EDGE Insight and keep an eye on things. It will also allow you to force a regen.

what are the requirements for the edge to force a refen?

Not 100% sure, but I'm guessing that everything has to be in order before it will allow it to be initiated. I guess that it is similar to the manual switch found on many class 7-8 applications.

For clarity: What I'm saying is that it won't allow a manual regen if it's not needed. If it is nearing the threshold where a regen is needed anyways, it should start the process and continue until it is interrupted. If an active regen is already happening, the Edge will allow a user to keep it going until it is finished without needing to jump on the interstate for an unplanned trip.

I know that the dealership scanners can initiate a forced regen at anytime, whether it is needed or not.

It sounds like you have been mislead

Which statement is misleading? Please clarify. I received to CEL's this week and cleared them both times with my code scanner.
NOx sensor levels & DPF regen frequency are the codes that keep coming back.

I have the Edge Insight installed.. Which of the 5 exhaust temp sensors tell me the system is heating properly to regenerate?? I mostly drive back and forth to town about 15 miles one way. I have noticed that the little red R for regen light has been coming on almost every trip, BUT for only for about 5 miles??? Have never smelled any super hot heat?? Is this normal??

Take it in and have it looked at clearing codes will not fix anything

Weird thing is the codes only come when the DEF gauge is less than 1/4. Think that has anything to do with it?

Happened same last Dec. Never got DEF warnings, but my philosophy has to been mostly clear out all the old DEF before adding fresh

There are monitors that only run after refilling the def. The 6.7 has some crazy requirements some of theonitors to run and pass
