Yea, you can ditch the DPF. Basically all you need is an 04. 5-07 5. 9 exhaust and itll bolt right up with the exception of one hanger. Then you need to use sims for the exhaust sensors to fool the ECM into thinking the DPF is still there and clean. You need to reuse the o2 sensors, but I dont think you need to install them in the exhaust. Other than that, a programmer (Smarty, XRT) will add more power, but also be code free, so no CELs. Smarty gets rid of the 4th injection, and XRT I hear turns it down.

So any aftermarket exhaust?

Is there anyone that has done this and does it increase fuel milage?

Would State inspections pick this up?

As far as I know, any system for an 04. 5+ truck will fit.

Theres numerous people that have done this, and most have reported a fairy significant increase in mileage, so even upwards of 5...

Yes, if your inspection includes them looking under the truck, and they know what should be there, theyll notice it. It is against Federal law. An option may be gutting the cats and DPF and running a straight pipe through them and welding it up so it looks like stock at first glance, but is really straightpiped or muffled...

I have all of mine deleted. Yes any exhaust for an 04. 5 truck will work, I have bungs welded into mine so the factory sensors go back in. I have a gen. I fooler box, so I have the edge clear codes on startup.

Lot's of reading on this topic.

So could be done. So does not sound out of the question then if you ended up having to replace the regen system after warrentee ran out.

Thanks for all the info

Would it be possible to put a splitter in the exhaust before the dpf so you could run straight pipe or dpf depending on what position you have the splitter in? That way you could leave everything factory and just run a bypass pipe around the dpf, if you ever got pulled over or had to go through inspection or to the dealer you could just flip the switch and put it through the dpf.
