Several questions about the Regen process on my 2017 2500 CTD...

Should I get some kind of light or indication when doing a regen?

Under normal circumstances my lie-o-meter will say I am getting 25 mpg, but around once a month I notice that the MPG on my truck really drops....at least 5-10 mpg on the same road, same conditions. The next day the mpg will be back to normal. I was thinking the truck is going thru a Regen during the bad mpg situation?

Thanks

Your truck performs a regen every 24 hours of operating time, it takes 5 to 15 minutes.

Regens are not time based, they are need based. If your truck is worked hard all the time, it likely would never perform a regen....but this is an unlikely scenario.

and no, you get no indication of a regen unless the DPF is critically plugged.

As far as I know, I have never noticed a regen. Although my truck does get worked pretty hard. My truck after the SCR recall seems to use LESS DEF then before, but I really don't track it or anything like that or compare towing to none towing.

I think I might fall into that category......additionally, I could care less if I know when my truck is performing a regen.

Actually there is a regen timer. It's thousands of seconds of engine run time, don't recall exactly how many but it is quite a while. It's kind of the failsafe to make sure the DPF stays clean.

I thought I remembered both Bob4x4 and Sag2 confirming this in the past. Both a timer and fairly regular DPF pressure differential monitoring (once exhaust temps reach the required temps).
