Registering a 1997 3500 in California

New 12 v owner. Truck bought in SE U. S.; want to register in CA, where I am a resident. Truck has no cat at present; intend to have one installed in SE for lower labor and parts cost. Truck has Bully Dog turbo (64-65 mm) and what is said to be slightly uprated injectors. Any one have experience on what I will need to do before the registration exam? Have heard stories all the way from horrible to not-too-bad. Anyone been through this process recently? Any help appreciated.

A '97 is smog exempt here. Get it weighed and you're ready to go. You'll owe use tax on the purchase price if you didn't pay any in the SE. If you don't belong to AAA join it for the towing and you can register it there avoiding the DMV.
Your truck is fine the way it is.

They Made it available veterans day IRRC,You need to take your dd214 to a vet center then they generate a form and put their seal on it.Then that paper work you hand carry to dmv,take a pic kick up some money
