When I ordered my Quad cab last year, I had convinced myself that it was the only way to go. It offered less turning radius than the megacab, additional ground clearance to lessen the chance of high-centering offroad, would be easier to manipulate in parking lots for daily driving, and the cab/bed ratio made the truck look more proportioned.

However, after almost a year with the quad cab, I realized that the marginal offroad advantage probably hasn't helped me much, and that I use the truck far more for long trips than I do for daily grocery store commutes... and recently, there's been many times I wish I had the extra room in the rear.

Have any of you with a megacab wish you would have gone with a quad cab instead? If so, for what reasons? I love my truck, but am trying to determine if trading for the mega is worth the effort... Thanks! Eric

I made the jump from a quad cab to the mega cab and have zero regrets. It takes a little while to get use to the extra length, but we'll worth it...

I have the Mega and love it. I figure we bought the extra room for my g/f's kids and they love it. My bike doesn't fit without the tailgate down, but a bike isn't supposed to be in the bed anyway! Plywood and lumber has been a pain sometimes, but hey, kids complain a lot more about adequate space than bed cargo does :)

I love it and yes, it doesn't look proportional all the time but its growing on me. I have more pics in my webshots link.

I'm very happy with my Mega Cab no regrets at all!

I do miss my 8' bed (very seldom though).

Only you can answer the question of trading for a Mega Cab.

Good luck! :D

I don't regret mine. The extra room is great and I had a short box on my quad cab anyway.

I do like the 04 dash better than my 06. . Still trying to decide if I miss the leather. The Mega is an SLT, my Quad was a Laramie.

My friend has the Mega Cab and likes the quietness(it's even quieter than his 05 is) He likes the cab etc. but hates the vibration. He has had the truck in so many times for days at a time, and Chrysler cant get rid of the rear vibration issues. If they get rid of the vibrations empty, they will come back when it is loaded. He has bought air bags to keep the ride height even. This has helped a bit, but not fixed it. Chrysler has said they would buy his truck back since they can't fix it. They have had very many complaints about this issue. I guess some people aren't as in tune with their trucks and don't notice it as much. Chrysler thinks the problem is because the carrier bearing is farther back with the bigger cab and the back driveshaft is shorter. I wouldn't buy the Mega Cab for this reason. If they come out with a long box dually, then I would buy one, when the driveshaft lengths are a little more even. I don't care that a long box would be a BIG truck. My 03 Quad dually is already too big to park anyway!

I would like to have had a megacab but it wasn't out when I got my 05.

I figure it would cost me 10-15k to trade in my quad cab and upgrade to the megacab.

Would also be more inconvient towing my 5th wheel.

They are nice but for the 2 reasons above I can't justify it.

I bought an 03 QC in May, but when they had the employee pricing deal, I bought a Mega.

The big thing reason was that it was difficult having a child seat and a base for a baby carrier in the back and still have room for my wife to feed the baby a bottle on the road. Putting either type of child seat in the center of the back seat of a QC isn't safe IMHO because of how short the seat is there. That's why there aren't any LATCH connections.

Now, both diaper fillers are next to each other and my wife has plenty of room. As the kids get older, there will be plenty of legroom.

Sorry, but I've taken a short ride in the back of a QC, and at 6'3", I'd need a chiropractor if I rode back there for long. The seatback is almost perpendicular to the ground and unless Minnie Me is driving, there's no legroom.

Plenty of room here in my QC for me, the wife, and both kids in child safety seats. I see that the rear seat is shorter in the center, but I don't feel that is a safety issue when safety seats are fastened properly.

I like the Mega, but for what I do, the Quad Dually makes the most since. Oo.

No way that I would trade 18" of bed space for 18" of cab space.

I've purchased 5 new vehicles since 1998 in seach of my perfect tow vehicle. It's cost me a fortune in depreciation and don't have much to show for all those payments. I should have my 04. 5 paid off in about 15 months. I don't want to go back to my old bad habbits.

Like most have already said, I don't regret going with the Mega Cab. I have enjoyed each truck I've owned a little more (2001, 2003, and now 2006 Mega). Going from my 2003 Quad Cab short box, to my 2006 Mega did take a bit of adjustment with the turning radius, etc. , but the additional cab space was an improvement for both my kids and my work. Occasionally I do wish I had a longer bed, but those occurrences are few and far between.

A friend of mine that works at a Dodge dealership had a Mega Cab Demo and had to go back to the Quad cab... he misses the Mega every day. He didn't think he would... but he does miss the extra room. He's had many customers who have made a point to mention that they couldn't go back to the Quad after having the Mega.

Again, like others have said…we can give you our experience, but at the end you can only say what’s best for you.

Good luck! -Ken

I read somewhere that the long box is required for towing a 5th wheel. I wish I could remember where so I could refer you to it.

Ideally, yes it is best to have a Long Box but there are 5th wheel sliders for the bed, so you don't wreck the cab, when you back up.

I have the quad cab with the long bed and wish they would have the mega with a long bed cause i use the bed every day but would love to have more space in the cab for the longer trips but I could not see loosing the space in the bed for more in the cab. Hopefully they will come out with a mega long and I will have one of those as my tow vehicel.

My mega cab made up for everything that I didn't like about my 05 quad. This time I went with a six speed. I think the quads look cartoonish with the tall skinny back door and short arch on the top of the side glass. Your kids will love the mega cause you can't reach back and smack them. I bought a full set of appliances two weeks ago and put the fridge and stove in the bed and to a salesmans amazement I put the dishwasher and the above the range microwave in the back seat one in front of the other. My six year old sat next to them in the back seat. These were in the boxes. I like the ride of the longer truck. When I pull my boat on long trips we can fit all of out luggage and all the rest of the unneeded stuff in the cab when it rains. I could just go on and on. I have no plans of owning a camper or using it to haul on a daily basis. After having a Mega cab I will never consider the regualr quad again. I like it that much.

When I picked up my Quad Cab Dec 31st of 2004, the Mega was just a thought in some D/C executives imagination. Since I knew nothing of a Mega Cab at the time, the size and space with the Quad seemed generous compared to my traded 1998 Toyota Tacoma Xtra-Cab Prerunner. Mind you my buddies and friends etc. . used to cram into my old Tacoma all the time, I've even had to ride back there a time or two. The Quad Cab seemed like a limo in comparison & even slightly larger than the Tacoma DoubleCab that came later. Many of friends, relatives have ridden in my Quad and have never complained about space or size. I find most people that ride in my truck are so happy to be riding up high and inside a big truck. No kidding when I go to family gatherings or to friends homes, everyone always wants to jump in the truck? My quad cab in short is perfect for my girl & I and what I use my truck for. If anything I would be trading for another Quad Cab but long box or a Reg Cab w/ Long box but definitely not a Mega? Why..... the front isn't any larger, and I'm never going to sit in the back seat anyway so who cares? When I was a kid my folks had a black Trans Am and a '72 VW Beetle, would go all over the place in the back seat of those cars and quite frankly as a kid I don't ever remember or cared so much of the rear seat room or lack of on either car, I was to busy worried about what every other kid did at that age but certainly not my parents cars or space in the car? Kid today are too spoiled, it gets me weak when parents "need" a car *cough* limousine because their kids complain because of the space in the back seat, please.

I went from a 97 longbed extended cab to the Mega. Yes, I miss the extra bed space, but not enough to balance out how much I love the cab space. A lot of my long bed space was for some basic tools, straps, highlift jack, come along, bungies, and other junk. All that fits behind the seats. It's much easier to get to. We looked at the qcab because I wanted the long bed, but there wasn't a whole lot more room than in my 97. We go on long vacation trips, and my one son is getting bigger and looks like he'll be pretty tall. I don't feel bad about putting my full sized friends in the back of the Mega, and I could sleep back there if I wanted to. Wish it was an 8' bed, but having the choice I had, I'd stick with the Mega. If I hauled long stuff a lot, or had a 5er, I might be more inclined to get the qcab 8'. If I need to haul long stuff now, I can borrow a trailer for the few times a year that it's necessary.
