Just bought an 06 4x4 with a mfg dat of 4/06. I intended to use it for my fishing trips to Baja, (where incidentally diesel is $1. 90), now I find that a new TSB says low sulphur diesel only... ... any ideas? :--)

Yeah, use low sulphur diesel only.

In the US, "regular" #2 diesel is Low Sulphur (< 500ppm sulphur). I'm not sure what it is in Mexico, but you should be fine with plain #2 diesel just about anywhere. It won't be long now until ULSD is standard in the US, which should work ok in the 3rd Generation trucks as well, although a lubricity additive might not hurt to give some extra piece of mind...

Mexico

I don't think it will be possible to find LSD or ULSD when I am 600 miles below the border. The pemex diesel worked fine in my 2001, now I find out I am supposed to use only the upgraded low sulphur fuel. :{

Mexican diesel

You'll be fine. I would look into the 7 micron stock filter though. Learn how to change it and maybe swap it out down there for the return trip. Fill up in San Quintin or any busy station. Just south of Colonet,there's a new station in Jaramillo with new tanks. I've bought diesel there many times. Tour buses pull in there all the time. Be sure and change your money into pesos at the border so each merchant doesn't detirmine the exchange rate. Drive with your lights on.

Excellent post, especially about using the 7 micron fuel filter.

I've bought fuel in mexico..... no problems..... fuel there is sold by premex... . controlled by the govt... same price no matter which station you stop at... .

I filled my 04 with over 100 gallons... . had no problem... .

Remember the same engine is sold there as well.....

all pemex diesel is low sulfur, if you have an 07 with 6. 7L then you need ULSD which will not be available at all pemex's for about 2 more years. any 5. 9 cummins can run on pemex no problem. It is wiser to use the high volume stations were you see all the new 07 volvo's and swift trucks filling up though,less chance for old leaking storage tanks that might be water contaminated
