Last summer I was having trouble starting my truck. I friend suggested I check the starter relay (one of the three little black boxes mounted near the hindge on the drivers side fender). Sure enough, we took it off and cleaned it up and the truck started easier. I went to a dealership and got a new relay. Last weekend, a little over a year later, it happened again. Has anyone else had troubles with you relay and is there a better solution?

Thanks to everyone for this great resource.

If the relay it's self is faulty, you can replace with a different brand and or model.

If it's simply a matter of corrosion @ the terminals... ... install the grease designed for the prevention of corrosion... ... not wheel bearing grease :)

Dielectric grease is the one to use... you can get it at any Radio Shack or similar place.

I'm also suspicious why you'd have trouble so soon since most of those babie's run/work fine for 10 or more years on our trucks as original parts... . hmmmm

pb. .

If you suspect the relay is bad, you probably have an issue with one of two things;

Low voltage

Bad ground

These relays are nearly bullet proof. Well, you know what I mean :)
