I miss my 2006 and am getting the itch to order a new truck. Am I crazy to be thinking about the diesel again? I have about an 80 mile round trip to work and back every day and only occasionally get stuck in some traffic. Would the 6. 7 give me problems with that kind of commute or should I think about a gasser? Every time I see the new trucks, I lust after them and want to own another one... ...

Please help:confused:

Hi !

I have no need to tow right now. Maybe and it's a big maybe, an occasional tow in the future. Nowhere near what the truck can do. It is definitely overkill for me.

I don't think you're crazy. If you want a new CTD truck, get one!

If you're not going to tow, the Hemi would work, but since you already had a Cummins in your 06, I'd think you'd be disappointed in it.

My 2010 worked fine with a similar workload except I had weekly about 300 mile trips on the weekends. I never even got a Regen Required message on the EVIC.

Thanks Guys!

I'm still in the shopping phase and would order the vehicle exactly how I wanted it. I was a little scared of the 6. 7's being problematic but I think enough time has elapsed that most or all of the problems have been resolved. Any ideas what MPG's I could expect for the highway?

If you're not going to tow, what's the point of purchasing a HD, diesel towing machine. I'd consider a Toyota Tacoma or a Toyota Trunda for a daily driver.

On the other hand, if you really want another CTD, go for it, even if you can't justify that much truck.

I appreciate all your input .....

I've always liked diesels and love the torque. I like the way the Rams drive. I also think the Cummins is the only diesel besides Volkswagen that does not need any urea treatment. One less thing to worry about.

I am also considering a 2011 1500 Laramie 5. 7 loaded. The 1500 would be more practical and probably just as fun to drive.

I haven't had my 2006 for a couple of years but I keep coming back, checking the posts and reading my TDR cover to cover the day I get it in the mail. It's sad, huh:-laf.

Thanks for letting me live vicariously through you guys.

To borrow a phrase, I love the smell of diesel in the morning.

Don't get me wrong, I love my 02 CTD but if I were to buy a new truck I think I would get a Hemi as I don't think I could justify the extra dollars for the diesel engine & the extra cost of diesel fuel. I don't tow as much as I use to & I think the Hemi would do the job. Just my opinion.

I'm leaning towards the Hemi 1500 ....

It would be more practical and less money. I have a couple of months before I place my order. All the 2011 specs and order info should be out by then. Everyone's input is very much appreciated.

Along with the diesels, I keep a 1/2 ton 4x4 to beat around for work and regularly use them for the short trips etc. I picked up a new 2010 Ram 1500 Crew Cab a little over 3 months ago and had a Silverado 1500 before that. To be honest with you, other than the towing that we do, the 1/2 comes in very handy and will probably serve you quite well if you decide to go that route.

If you want a diesel then get it. No one should tell you not to get it, because you "don't use it as a truck" phrase. . In your position it's great to "want" than to "need". It's your money, and if you want a diesel for just being a enthusiast, then get it.

There are still benefits w/ going diesel over a gasser. .

I hope the Ram website gets updated soon to reflect the 2011 options, specs and colors. Any ideas when all the info will be released?

As an owner of a 2010 tundra, I say hands down the 1500 gasser is a better daily driver. My wife usually takes it, but sometimes I talk her out of it... its just a much better/easier drive. As you can see from my sig, I'm comparing driving experiences to my 02 2500... I'm sure the 2010/11 dodge is more carlike now than 8 years ago. However, when we have something to tow, we climb into the dodge, there's just no comparison when towing. I like the fact that gas is cheaper (though tundra gets 18mpg to dodge 20mpg) and maintenance/repair items are MUCH cheaper on the 1500. But nothing beats that feeling I get when I hit the starter and hear that 5. 9L come to life :D

Joe,

Do us all a favor and go drive the new 1500's and the diesels and give us a report back. They say the new 1500's ride and handle so much better and the new diesels with the new 6 speed A/T are light years above the old 48RE equipped trucks.

Anyway happy shopping and please report back with your findings as there are a number of us still "sitting on the fence" with the same dilemma.

I had the 2004. 5 and drove it for 80K miles. I have the 2010 laramie fully loaded and I like this truck soooo much more than the 04. 5. This feels like so much more power I believe in part due to the 6 speed auto and the new turbo. The exhaust brake is just the icing on the cake. I put 4k on it commuting 50 miles daily and lots of around the town. No warning lights and got 4,200 miles before the oil change light came on. Now I'll be towing a bit more so I expect things to get a little better. The fuel mileage is right around wjere the 04. 5 was. So not so disappointed there.
