I am glad to see all the activity on this thread. I know the suspension on the 1500's is really nice and I had nothing bad to say about my '06 ctd. I'm sure the 2011 ctd's are no doubt superb. I will definitely test drive both and see how tough the routine maintenance is on the new diesels. I try and do as much as I can on my own. I will probably end up with the gasser but still lust after the diesel. Isn't that why we are all here;). Half the fun is shopping for what I want.

I drove the 2010 1500 with the cummins. It did ride much nicer than the 2500 but that is to be expected. It all depends on your needs. The maint. on the new diesel is basically the same as your 06. They went back to the drop in fuel filter and no need to purchase the entire housing. The emission stuff sure looks scary though

I had a 2004. 5 3500 CTD S/B that I sold 3 years ago. I bought a 2008 3500 CTD L/B as I thought we would buy a bigger truck camper. As it turns out, we like the space in front of the original camper for firewood, grill, & other stuff we don't want to put in the truck or camper. I just ordered a 2011 3500 CTD L/B yesterday to replace the 2008. I test drove a couple, they seem to ride a lot smoother.

All that being said, I have a 2 mile drive to work every day, although most days it's a 5 mile trip because I head to Starbucks first. If your concern is turbo or DPF problems due to the short daily commute, not a concern (at least I've had no problems here in Western NY). Of course my commute takes me to my job at Cummins where we build the heavy duty truck engines, so of course I'm biased toward Cummins.

Inquiring minds would like to know- where did you find a 1500 series with the diesel?

So, how do you like working for Ford? :-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf

I assume you meant the HEMI?

Buy what you want. I have owned 2 diesels, both Dodge, and I don't tow anything. I just like the cummins. Although my slide in camper is heavy, I'm sure a gasser would carry it. But who doesn't love the noise of a cummins??

being biased I drove the 1500 hemi, and it drives great handles like nothing that I've ever driven in a Dodge. Over the period of three days I drove an 2500 crew cab, a 1500 crew cab and ab2500 single cab 8' bed. I had two o6 5. 9s one auto one six speed both 3. 73 rears. What I ended up with was the single cab 6. 7 with 3. 73 auto and towed a trailer about 130 miles today at about 5200 pds. with an mpg of 12. 4. But I'm anoil tanker guy I love to here the rattle. Oo.

I just bought a 2010 2500 ctd. I have 5500 miles on it with no problems at all. I work offshore and do a lot of highway driving. It drives like a half ton, but with much more hp & tq.

For you guys that have had no problems using your 2500s as daily drivers, do you keep your EB on all the time and keep the RPMs up around town or do you just throw in it "D" and forget about it.

I just came out of a 2007. 5 and got the new truck (in sig) last weekend. On the '07, I had a stick so it was easy to keep the engine from lugging around at 1K around town and I always kept the EB on based on advice and problems I read about here on TDR. Apparently it worked because I had 37K miles of 100% trouble free operation out of this truck, and about 80% of these miles were "daily driving" miles.

Question is: my 2010 was built towards the end of the MY with 3 years of updates and enhancements already built into my new 6. 7. Does that mean I can just drive it like anything else or am I asking for problems down the road?

tdinut, if you are driving aprox 40 miles on the highway you should have no problem with the 6. 7 but if your dirving in stop and go traffic a hemi would be better.

But since your a diesel freak buy the 6. 7 it will make reading the mag more enjoyable.

I'm driving mine in T/H with EB on all the time. I like the shift mapping better in T/H and I'm used to having the EB on all the time from my previous '06 with the Jacobs and G56.

From what I've read, D/C has worked all the turbo bugs out on the 2010 -current models. You should be able to drive it in whatever mode you'd like and not have any reliability issues.

I have 8K and have only towed my 5th wheeler three times. I keep the EB on all of the time. When driving with speeds under 55mph I lock the manual shifter in 5th gear so that the engine doesn't lug. Not one issue with this truck other than the Hvac recall. I do mostely 23 miles (each way) trips on mostly highway for my daily commute

Thanks Missouri Mule ...

I plan on waiting until the worst part of the winter in NY is over and check out the 2011's. I keep coming back to the Ram:)

I have very little stop and go on my commute, only occasionally I run into some traffic.

If I understand correctly, the 2011's still will not have DEF/Urea injection? Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for all the input ..... so far.

Just before I bought by 2010, I test drove and looked closely at a 2011--same 6. 7 setup as the 2010s--DPF w/no Urea injection
