By chance does anyone know of a shield being built for LPs that have been relocated to the frame rail? Once upon a time I have saw a post or two with pics of of tin/light steel shields, just wondering if those were one of a kind creations or readily available.

I used a small block Chevy "fuel pump to block mount" - block off plate. It's used when you install an electric FP vs the mechanical one. Can find them in local Speed Shops maybe even Pep Boys or the like, for under $10, comes with a gasket. Wooo they're usually chrome too. Oo. :-laf Probably the cheapest part I've ever had to buy for my truck.

You could make one pretty easy out of a scrap of exhaust tubing or something like that to cover the pump on the frame rail.

I didn't bother with anything. The pump is close enough to the T Case (short box truck) that nothing should hit it.

Guess I misunderstood the question - thought you were looking for something to block off the hole where the LP mount is bolted to the engine - where the older mechanical pump would have gone. It's all good.

Joe, that must have been on a 12 valver. The 24v's have an electric pump, they don't go into the block like a 12v. But don't feel bad, I thought the same thing when I first read the post, then I thought about it for a bit and ... hmmmm. . wait a minute, there's not a hole.

CumminsAholic - you are correct the 12V have the mechanical pump but, the engine block remains the same. When I relocated the stock filter and POS Carter to the frame (Pre-GFS-392) I didn't like the mount that remained and stuck out the side of the block. When I removed it there was a hole where "on the 12V" the mechanical pump mounted. I've seen several threads where guys get an aftermarket cam with the FP lobe and convert to the P7100 pump and mechanical LP so, we could actually use the old mechanical pump if our cam had the lobe on it - anyway I pulled the mount off and the 2 bolt holes, one on each side of the vertical slot which allowed the pump arm (on the 12V) to contact the fuel pump lobe (not there on the 24V cam) looked strikingly like a small block Chevy. And the "Mr. Gasket Fuel Pump Block Off Plate - SB Shevy" worked fine to clean up the side of the block and not create an oil leak. ;)

But I think JJ was looking for a sheild for his relocated LP. JJ - I wouldn't worry about a sheild if you've relocated to the inside of the frame rail - the stocl LP will eventually fail anyway  and then you can fix it right for good with one of the aftermarket products such as - see GFS-392 in my sig. Sorry can't resist an opportunity to plug Rich's great product. :-laf

I see Joe. I guess I just thought it already had a block off plate. When I installed my fass, I just unhooked the factory lp and the line from the fuel filter and hooked the fass to the inlet of the the fuel filter, that way I didn't have to change my fuel pressure gauge and I have 2 fuel filters now, also if the fass dies, I can hook up the factory lp in a few minutes. So I didn't even notice how it was mounted, I just assumed that there was a factory block off plate. Thanks for the correction... now the thread can go back to the topic. :)

Lift pump shield

I fabricated a "quick and dirty" cover for my relocated lift pump as shown below.

I used some stainless sheet metal, (excuse the non-professional appearance), to create a box of sorts to protect the lift pump and wiring from flying debris. There are openings towards the rear to allow drainage, and a welded on "lip" where the wires and hose exit. I was not able to locate anything on the market that was suitable. Is this the kind of cover you are looking for?

SBall - nice work. I guess if you are off roading this would be great protection. Actually even on-road can be hazardous to things on the frame.

Cory - When I relocated my LP I didn't know if there would be an opening or not behind the stock mount on the block until I started to remove it an there was a gasket. I got on TDR and asked if the mount plate was removed would it be a possible place for an oil leak. Sure enough the response came back yes and for the reasons I mentioned before. No correction intended or implied, Just didn't want other folks reading this to misunderstand my reply . . . like I "totally" misunderstood what JJ was looking for.

"It's all good" ;)

SBall exactly what I was looking for. Am wondering if I can butcher an ammo can

Sorry for not being more involved in the thread, we are packing up the house, we are moving to the D. C. area at the end of the week.
