Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) relocating breather bottle/hose

Has anyone relocated their breather bottle or just ran the hose straight to the ground? I have oil drops hangin on the oil pan, the bell housing and every where underneath. I am trying to eliminate the breather waste, before i tell the dealer my front crank seal is leaking

Do a search on this. You will find a lot of people have lengthened/rerouted the hose and eliminated the catch bottle. I extended mine straight down about 8 inches.

Wonder why it's not run to a place near enough to the air filter so the Rotella fumes could be sucked in and burned? With all the environmental worries, it seems like it would be cleaner to burn the blow-by.

I ran an extension coupled with a barb connector and a piece of 3/4" heater hose. I have it tied to the front anti-sway bar (i have a 4x4) and so far no problems. I extended it down so if it drips while driving it has a minimal chance of getting on the axle. I'm sick of whiping all that crap off every month. I'm ditching the bottle for now, i park over dirt at home and as far as everywhere else, tell DC to make a truck that doesn't puke oil

Just a little tip - If you want to keep the bottle and keep it in original location (like me,) just cut a sock (preferably NOT one with a hole in the toe,) long enough to go over the bottle and tie-wrap it in place. Prevents the dripping and misting all over the underside and if you use a white one, you will start to see oil spots when the bottle is getting near full. Works for me...

At 50,000 miles on my 01, I've never noticed any fumes, or drips, or anything else from this bottle. It's kind of oily and gunky around the bottle but that's it. Are you suppose to empty it out periodically?

yes, it should be emptied at every oil change. *I* look at it as free rust preventative, and never empty it.

it sure has given my front axle and associated steering linkage quite the rub down with free rust preventative. I just love how the water beads off!

here is what I did. I made another vent on the valvecover. it still makes a drip every now and then but the mess is not there... .
