I want to take the spare tire off the back bumper of my Travel Trailer so I can put a cargo basket back there. I don't want it under the tongue as that would be too low at times. There is no room under the trailer behind the axles because of the water tanks, so I was thinking about mounting it under the trailer in front of the axles. Anyone got any good ideas on how to do this in a way so I don't have to crawl underneath like we do on our trucks? It is a 15" tire on a steel rim. David

On my airstream I have a carrier under the front floor of the trailer. It is very similiar design of the 70s pick-ups.You would still have to get under like a pick up.Since i have never needed it.I have never worried about making it easier to access.

Out of the way usually ends up being hard to access, especially if the trailer is lower to the ground due to flat tire/s. I carry two spares and put them in the back of the truck, with the second truck spare tire.

Ask yourself the following question: How often have I used my spare? I've moved several trailer spares to more out-of-the-way locations. Yes, it's essential to have the tools available to access the relocated spare and to change it. On the ones I have moved, the added inconvenience of accessing the spare was far outweighed by the added storage space.
