Green Dumper in need of help?

As for BAD remakes, I think Faith Hill's version of "Piece of My Heart" just plain sucks! I'll bet there are millions of teeny bopper girls out there who have never even heard of Janis Joplin. Now there's a singer who could put some emotion into her singing!!

Andy

You have got to be kidding, Joplin sounds HORRIBLE! F. Hills version is MUCH better. Joplin must've been doped up good when she sang (use that term loosely) that song. #ad

No I'm not kidding. Faith Hill's version sounds too "pretty". I'd much rather hear a song about broken love sang with a little emotion in it, instead of listening to something where you can tell the singer is just "going through the motions" by reading the lyrics off a sheet while sitting on a stool in a studio. That's what made Janis great was her sloppy, unpolished, gritty style. That's what rock and roll is all about! To "water it down" and make a smooth-sounding country sound out of it is just plain wrong.

Now, if Janis had never sung that song, and Faith Hill's version was the "original", I think it would be a fine song to be on the country charts until it falls off and is forgotten. But, to me, the raw energy of Janis Joplin and the way she "belted out" that song makes it so unique that I don't think any other singer could sing it better. Thirty five years from now, do you think Faith Hill's version will still be played on the radio?

35yrs? Haven't heard it on the radio for quite awhile already. Like most other types of music nowadays, once it is off the charts, the radio stations seem to drop it like a hot potato. Just waiting to kick out the next best thing, whether it is a new song or singer.

It's a shame what has happened to the industry. With so much cross-over crap, You can't JUST have country, blegrass, rock, pop, or whatever style you prefer.

Seems mostly to be the "country" singers doing over to the "darkside". Such as Shania Twain and Faith Hill being 2 of the most noticeable.

I agree with you there. I think country has gotten to "pop" sounding. I think we can still count on guys like Randy Travis and George Strait to keep it "real" country. I hope I never see one of them (or any other country singer) try to do a remake of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" or Guns 'n Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle". I used to listen to a lot of country until about 2 years ago, because all the newer stuff didn't impress me. But play "Heartland" or "Amarillo by Morning" by George Strait or "Paradise" by John Anderson, and I'll have a big smile on my face!

 Hey fellas, since you guys are discussing music, can I impose a question, If anyone knows the fella that sings the background songs, not necessarily the title music, in the show The Sopranos, I would sure like his name. He must have a cd out there. Thanks in advance!!!! Tim

I think that the 2 songs in the first post were given from different perspectives.

Seger's is from a standpoint of someone who is tired, and wants to go home.

Metallica's is more of someone who is agery that they are on the road so much. A little more confrontational.

Both are awsome. :D

TxDzlKId! good job, I think that is what I & NETim were after. They are different. Same words, different songs. I don`t like whiner songs as a rule but, after 25 years Seger has the right. The one that p`d me off was Bon Jovi`s Dead or Alive. They had been touring what ,2-3 years? When did the stormtroopers kick in your door, put a gun to your head, and make you become a star? Jees, celebrities have it rough! They can`t enjoy the money we give them because we want to talk to them! Don.

Tainted Love by Soft Cell

The British synth duo of Marc Almond and Dave Ball were inspired to cover Gloria Jones' 1964 classic as a tribute to the discos of their youth. Almond's camp delivery of the lyrics, however, gave the song a contemporary twist and it flew to No. 8 in 1982.

One of my favorite all time tunes is Lynyrd Skynyrds, "Tuesday's gone"... . a ballad about his girl named Tuesday leaving him. Hank Williams did a version of it, and I enjoyed it. I hear that Metalica also has a version, but have never heard it... has anyone else heard it?

BTW: next time you see a Home Depot commercial on TV, listen to the tune playing in the background... . it is Skynyrds Tuesday's gone. Skynyrds "Simple Man" is the tune in Bush beer ads as well.
