Remedy for Flat, Oxidized Emerald Clearcoat?

I use some stuff from NAPA called Buff-Ease. It is a very mild abrasive used to take out swirl marks after using rubbing compound. Been using it for years. My red paint in the Arizona sun still looks great!

Dupont makes a post spray cutting compound that comes in quart bottles. One is called perfect-it II, and the other finesse-it. Both are intended to remove swirl/polishing marks. I think that finesse-it is the "coarser" of the two. They really do restore the shine on paints or clear coats. Very mild abraisive action, so it doesn't thin the paint. I got mine at an automotive paint supply store. When I am done going over the paint, it has that new, just sprayed feel, without any rough spots.

if it looks foggy then just sand it with some 2000 wet sand paper and then compound it out, if you get any color off the sand paper, then its too late, the clear coat is gone,

ps just try this with compound first, if you get color off your towel then the cc is gone

Through two years of no available time time punctuated by multiple weeks of bad health, I have allowed the emerald green clearcoat
paint on my 1996 2500 4x4 to appear to turn flat. It sits outside in Arizona sun, and picks up a lot of dust.

Now I have some time available, and I'd like to solve the problem without repainting. Before I have at it with anything evil, like red rubbing compound and a buffer, I'd appreciate some advice on how to remove the murk. Overspray clay? Polishing compound? A miracle?

I too have an Emerald Green (now pasty white) '96. Here's the bad news. The Metallic Silver and Metallic Green paints have the clearcoat mixed into the paint, not sprayed on like the other colors #ad
Therefore, once it oxidizes you're screwed. You can buff to your hearts content and it will only last for a few weeks in our lovely state. Where we went wrong is not waxing it every 3 months since '96. That's why I got my 2001 white and had it teflon coated.

Haven't thought of that yet. I might try to buff it again and then rattle can some clear over that. I'll let you know.

Am not a professional painter by all means. . just a hobbist at best... I dont think you can shoot clear over a single stage paint (paint and clear sprayed as one. . hence single stage) 2 stage paints are 1st shot with a base(color) coat and then shot with the clear coats... JB
