Minnesota Mechanics. Tool Questions Again?

Well, I finally made a decision and purchased a rifle/ scope setup. Thanks to everyone’s advice, I decided to spend a little more and go for more than just entry level models. I was all set to buy a Remington model 700 ADL. But, last week’s Garts advertised Ruger models starting at $429. I ended up getting M77® Mark II Standard for just that price! I mated it with a Leupold VX-II 4-12x40mm Adj. Obj for $400. I spent a bit more than my initial buget, but feel that this combination will serve me well.

Thanks to all who replied to my post and let's all hope for a successful hunt this fall!

What caliber did you end up with?

I decided on the 30. 06. They offered the same model in 7mm for another $30. I could have gone there, but I had already upped my buget by quite a bit and settled here. I Had pretty much made up my mind on the Leupold brand scope and had to make a decision as to which model. I could not afford the VX-III models so I zeroed in on the II's. The salesman let me take both the 3x9 and 4x12 (w/ adjustable objective) in the parking lot to do a side- by- side comparison. Almost instantly fell for the 4x12 and made my choice for it. It was another $100 over the 3x9- but, hey- it's only money :-laf . I got it all mounted and am going to hit the range this weekend. I am looking forward to getting used to this setup and plan on going several times to the range before the end of October. Glad that we have a free range up here that is so close Oo. Again- thanks to all replied with input!

That setup should serve you well for the rest of your life... and your children's! In sighting the scope, it is useful to set up on a 25 yard range first, and adjust the scope to the target there (your scope may be sighted off the paper at 100 yds). Remember though to click the scope adjustments 4 times per 1/4" at that distance.

Leupold scopes can't be beat for the money. I have a Vari-X II 3x9x40 on my sig . 270 that I use for whitetail. They're both perfect. Here in hilly Tennessee, a 300 yard shot is unheard of. :)

Enjoy the combo. I believe you've made a quality investment in both scope and gun.

I have a 270 bdl rem with a 3x9 gold ring Leupold, for white tail. A 338 win mag with a 98 action, custom made gun, for big game. It shoot good for me. I am not sure that it is as good as my brother 300ultra mag is though. I like good guns and will wait untill I can get what I wont.

The 30. 06 is a good gun and I would like to have one Jim
