Outback,

Hope the fobs keep working for you! Do I understand you correctly, you replaced with new, fobs and control modules? If so, do you know if the modules were located in the door, or elsewhere?

Thanks!

Guys

When I bought my truck about a month ago, I decided to try the remote start from about 100 feet away. I push the 2 x button twice like it says and nothing happened. Tried it again. Nada. Tried to unlock truck but it would not work. Used key. When I opened door, alarm went off. Inserted fob to start truck. No workie. Tried to remove fob. Would not come out. Alarm finally went off. Opened door, alarm went off again. Still could not remove fob. After 4 times of this called service dept. They did not know what to do. Tried other fob (1st on still locked in). Still no work but alarm went off again when door opened. Decided to unhook batteries. Did that and alarm did not come back on when I reconnected batteries. Fob came out after this. Soooooo the moral of this story is to unhook the batteries when all else fails and that resets the system. The fob locking up in the ignition is part of the anti-theft system I guess. The book sure does not mention it nor do the dealers know. It has all worked OK since that little ad venture. It was not a happy learning experience!!!

Holy "shucks"!! What horror story! But I appreciate learning of your solution. I can't imagine how much fun it was to open the hood and disconnect the batteries with the horn blasting away!!

I have same problem doors don't always unlock using fob. I have had it to dealer 3 times replaced fob, then star told dealer to disconnect the remote start as this could be causing interference problem. I have been testing for about 1 week with remote start disabled has been better (not locked me out). I will update as I continue testing.

dheadingto,

Good info. I don't have the remote start feature and still have the problem. Last occurrence was about two weeks ago (using it several times a day now).

I have exactly the same problem WRT the FOB functioning. I often remote start the truck - which locks the doors. Then, as I approach the truck I beging pressing the 'unlock' button, sometimes it works right away, other times it takes numerous button presses to work. I think it works better from a little further away, so I try to be twenty or thrity feet away when I press the unlock - this has given me best results. I have had no other problems as indicated above, just the occasional hard time opening the doors.

I'm still having the problem as well. In my case I can find no repeatable malfunction pattern. Dodge dealer in Boise had no clue. Dodge dealer today in Ventura, CA had no clue. I'm not a happy camper!

since disconnecting remote start the problem still exists taking back to dealer this week I don't know what they will do but have been locked out a couple of times

Thanks dheadingto! Please let us know what your dealer says! I may have some time today to try and get the problem into the Dodge telephone hot line. If I do, I will let TDR folks know what I learn.

Update to all Key Fob Issue Owners!

Two dealers have now shrugged their shoulders to this problem. I then called Ram customer support and talked to "Denise" and explained the problem in detail. She searched her sources and found no other such complaints. I told her about all of you having the same/similar problem and she encouraged you to call the "special" Ram owner number and make a report. You will need your VIN number. The number is 1-866-726-4636, or 1-866-RAM-INFO.

Please call, in numbers there is strength!

PS. I am continuing to still have the problem.

I went back to dealer after alot of different testing found one bad remote used the good one now both have been replace and seems to be working correctly. Hooked up remote start and still working I'll let you know after I try for another week or two. This is not my everyday vehicle so testing will take a little longer. I will call the above number and let her know what we did to correct my problem.

After checking out for a week seems to be repaired. If you are having a problem with 1 remote try the other and see if problem is still there. The dealer even tested signal strength with their tester and checked fine don't know if it was a little off frequency or what happened. Good luck!

Update: I am still have unlock problems, but infrequently. That being with 2-4 times per day of locking/unlocking, it will not unlock about 1-2 times per month. My solution is to try 2-3 time to unlock, then, if no joy, press the lock button then it has always opened on the next try.

Just recently I have experienced the door unkock problem. I have been wondering if I am standing to close or in a place where the signal is not hitting the right spot. Unfortunately, I do not know where the spot is.

Per this thread, most of us have different scenarios for this malfunction. Mine can show the problem from most anywhere.

Guys

I have had no further problems with mine so disconnecting the batteries did it for me. But who knows about tomorrow.

My 2011 remote start always works, but the unlock works only when it wants to. Sometimes on 1st try, sometimes it won't unlock at all. Once I took the fob apart and cleaned the battery with alcohaul and then it worked every time untill the next day. Gee I don't think I have an alarm tho. Thats about the only 2 things that don't work right on my truch tho.
