Remote Engine Starter?

Does anyone have any info RE: using an aftermarket remote control engine starter with a '04 Cummins HO? Is there such an animal? It seems like a good idea for those cold days when the block heater hasn't been plugged in. I'd actually like to drive in a warm truck, at least for the first half of my drive to/from work when I can't or didn't plug the thing in.

I've got one on my 03 that works just fine.



Don't expect a toasty warm truck though. With the remote start and an e-brake mine dosen't get very warm, if the high idle kicks in that helps, but it hardly ever does.

Thanx for the replies. It'd be nice if Mopar offered one so a factory warrantee could also be offered.

TWest, thanks for the note about DEI being lifetime warranty. I have a Clifford alarm on my truck that's been acting flakey lately. Sometimes it doesn't want to disarm and I have to wake up all the neighbors while I try to shut it off. I figured the warranty would be over but I checked and sho'nuf it's lifetime. Looks like I'll be taking it back to the shop and having them replace the unit and possible add remote start while I'm there.

NO, I had sound-waves, in spring lake park install it,You really need to known the wiring diagram of the truck. I do have the bit-writer for programing, Sound-waves was really mad when they found out,DEI said that hardware was dealer only,BUT I LIKE HAVING SO I CAN DO MY OWN PROGRAMING.

I bought an Avitar on my 2004. The new ones have a turbo timer on them. You can set it for 1,2,3,4,or 5 minutes . I thought for

$260. 00 at best buy installed I'll get the best of both worlds.

I don't tow much so I have it set for 1 min. any more time I can go inside and shut it off with the remote ,after a couple minutes.

The only downside is it doesn't hook up to the glow plug relay like my GMC. They have to set it up on a timer 1-10 second because they can't hook mine up to the heater grid. You can adjust the time with a screw driver . Mine is set at 8 sec. now but am getting ready to change it to 2 sec. for the summer. Works great.

SSNIDER..... Where did you get that remote?... Best Buy electronics store?..... sounds like a great deal... any problem with delaying start long enough to cycle in the winter?... ... the delay for cool down on turbo and transmission is my hot button... . mostly city driving from one client to another... ... time is money ,but I don't want to do anything that may shorten the lifespan... ... . heck, another 29. 5 years I'll have her paid for

Does the Viper operate the grid heaters automatically? Which one does the windows and what does that run? Can you buy it W/O an alarm?

The viper will wait for grid heater,it will try three times before it will go to no start,once the brake pedal is touch or ignition is turn, or engine starts ,it will go back to standard mode.

The viper system ties into the "wait to start" light and won't start until the light goes out. One feature I really like about the system is that at a push of a button you can remove the keys while parked with engine still running. Then you can run into the store to grab a big gulp while the engine is still on and the doors are safely locked. Forget to lock the doors and if someone jumps in the engine will shut off as soon as the hit the brake pedal.

Yes I got it at Best Buy Lifetime warrenty , on labor too I think.

No problems in the winter.

I heard that there is a relay for the 6 spds to detect whether the transmission is in neutral or not. Anyone know anything about it or have one installed?
