Can some one look in there "99" shop Manuel and see how I reprogram the keyless remote please. My keyless remote started working intermittently and then just quit working all together. Everything else seem to work fine. Door locks, lights, chimes, etc.

Checked the door lock fuse and the IOD fuse, all good. Pulled the fuses and let it sit for a few min. Still nothing. Also took the battery leads off for an hour. Replaced the batteries in the remote. Anyone got any suggestion? I did do a search for Remote Keyless Entry and the such. Found 2 different post on programing a older and newer truck nothing on my year. Tried both steps.

Maybe someone can help me with mine as well. I have a 98. 5 and can't seem to get into program mode or enable/disable the chirp.

Sorry guys, I have a 2001. 5 but I DO have a

funny story. At work there is a 1990'ish Honda

civic that is somehow controlled by my Dodge's

keyless entry. Everytime I Unlock my doors (even if they are already unlocked) it chirps his alarm and either locks or unlocks his doors.

It doesn't work if I just press my unlock button when I am near his car, I HAVE to actually communicate with my truck for it to work. I'm assuming there is some signal transmitted FROM my truck TO my remote each time I activate the unlock circuit. The LOCK signal has no affect on his alarm.

here you go.......

From the 99' service manual... ... ... . To reprogram the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter access codes into the RKE receiver in the Central Timer Module (CTM) requires the use of a DRB scan tool. Refer to the proper Diagnostic Procedures manual for more information.

What a pain. Hope mine doesn't bite the dust. The spec's call for Duracell DL2016 batteries, or their equivilent, properly installed with correct polarity oriented.

I'll dig further if you would like. Good luck

Better keep an eye on your truck Mick. Sounds like it might have a "thing" going with that Honda. :D :D

Yeh,

I might come out some afternoon and find it

curled up in my bed.

I'd like to find the owner and try HIS remote on

MY truck.

Chris - try this - it's from TSB 08-007-02:

Program Method B (Customer Program Method)

1. Press [LOCK] button 5 times at 2 second intervals to resynchronize transmitter. Attempt to function transmitter, it working as designed discontinue programming.

2. Turn ignition to the run position (Allow Ignition chimes to stop).

3. Using original transmitter, press and hold the [UNLOCK] button on the transmitter for between 4 and 10 seconds.

4. Continue to hold the [UNLOCK[ button and press the [PANIC] button. A chime will sound to indicate that the transmitter programming mode has been entered (Allow 3 seconds for chime to sound).

5. Press a button on all transmitters to be programmed into the system including any previously programmed transmitters; a chime will sound when each transmitter has been programmed.

6. Turn the ignition to OFF position to exit the transmitter programming mode.

Question for you guys with the OEM keyless entry. I'm considering one for my 2002 truck. My question is does the interior lights slowly fade off or just turn off after you enter or exit the truck?

Is the OEM keyless entry worth the $200 + price or should I look into after market? I do not want to be cutting and splicing into my wiring harnesses, thus the reason I have been considering the OEM unit..... I'm told it just plugs in, no cutting or splicing of wires.

My local stealer charges the standard Dodge price of $170 and sends the vehicals "across the street" to the local radio shop. If I decide to have it installed, I'll save myself alot of coin by going directly to radio shop myself. I asked if there was anything special about the "stealer installed" unit and the only thing that I could conclude from their response was the only thing special was their markup. By telling where they send the vehicals out to they more or less were telling me to take it direct to the local shop.

Online research resulted with a price range of $30 to $60 with $50 being the average. The $60 unit has alot more functionality than the unit I had a dealer install on my old '99 which also did not work in conjunction with with the manual locks.

My '99 with OEM Keyless Entry has a 30 second delay on the interior light if you exit the vehicle without locking the door.

The light goes out immediatly when the door closes if you lock the door, or when locking via the K. E remote.

Thanks guys,

I figured the OEM unit was over-priced for what you get. When I talked to my dealer about adding the keyless entry (dumb me for thinking I would not need such a "luxuary" item when I factory ordered the truck) they recommended I go to the accessory shop they send all thier trucks to and have an after-market unit installed.

Anyone know of an after-market unit which will fade the interior lights off?? I have been in a few vehicles where the interior lights slowly fade after getting in, I thought it was kind of a cool feature.

What after-market brands/units are good? Do after-market car alarms have a keyless entry feature built in?

First off I want to thank everyone who responded with a suggestion on how to fix my FOB A. K. A. Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter. Here is what happened. First off I had just replaced the batteries in my remote. Then about 3 weeks later it started working erratically, and then quit all together. I tried my wife?s and it did not work either. So I figured the system RX in the truck had gone bad, or the computer needed a reboot. I unplugged the computer for awhile to no avail. I unhooked the batteries for 2 hours and still nothing. So I started looking for a DRB scan tool. Found some but way to expensive for this one problem. So I call a local shop that does my company?s fleet maintenance to see what kind of scanner he had. He said he had one that should interface and it should tell you how to fix it, and if I come by the next day I could use it. Well I decide to get a new set of batteries for both remotes just to make sure. Well low and be hold the wife?s FOB worked with new batteries. But mine was still broke. Well I was closer to getting back to the way it use to be. All I needed now was a replacement remote. Now that I had a functioning remote I tried the above procedure and it made the system ding once. I had tried it with the other remote before and nothing happened. So I was doubting the instructions I had read in this and other posts. Well so now all I had to do was find a new FOB. Called Lithia and got a quote of $47. 50, then called the competition Anchorage Chrysler Dodge and they said $32. 50 Then to the web! I found one site at $55. 95 another at $25. 50 but it would have cost 10 dollars for shipping;"""( So I went and bought the $32 dollar one. I told the parts guy that wasn't to bad a price. He said well that did not include the 1/2-hour shop rate to program the remote. Well I new better. I told him how to program the remote in less than 15 sec. and save $45. 00 dollars!!!! What a racket! The fleecing of Dodge truck owners! Anyway the :--) above procedures do work if you have at least on functioning FOB. So If one goes down get a replacement soon or you might be looking for a scanner, or worse have your $$$ taken!

Thanks much!!!!
