Does anyone know if you can get a remote oil filter for our trucks? I am looking at building my own twin turbo set up(maybe just dreaming). I have seen pictures of a few twin set ups and they all seem different. I havent even began to lay anything out yet,I don't even have a second turbo at this time. But from looking at the way I would like to have my set up,it would be a lot easier to connect the air intake from the secondary turbo to the air filter if the oil filter was out of the way. T. I. Garry, first of all I don't have one. There's lots who rave about the AMSOIL remote bypass system. That may be the solution you seek. I also read of another system from Filtration Solutions that may interest you. Their web site is: www.filtrationsolutionsww.com Theirs is called the FS-2500. I read the info. It seems to work well, and they're pretty proud of it.

Hope this helps. BF ;)

A remote by-pass is additional filtration, it doesn't replace your main filter. My nephew has remotely located filter on his PSD, it is located so he can change it though a door he cut in the wheel well, takes the OEM filter, real sharp setup. He bought his though Summit, but I've seen many different ones offered though JC Whitney and others, way under $100.

illflem,

The PSD has a very easily accessible oil filter, I'm just wondering what prompted your nephew to relocate his... .

Matt, his PSD has many mods, one of which is a custom built large airfilter in a box that uses the hood for it's forth side, the ducting prevented the filter from coming out the top without removal. He uses the truck for search and rescue, it also has skid plates underneath.

Gary, should of also mentioned that the filter relocation kits I've seen won't buy you all that much space. They still use the stock filter bracket with a couple of hoses where the filter used to be.

Oh... okay... gotcha.

I've seen a few "Hot" PSD's at the dragstrip... . one was running low 14's in the 1320... . not bad for a big heavy truck. Sounds like your nephew is amongst one of the "Hot" variety... .

BF,

Thanks for the info, I visited the website and seen a few axamples of thier systems, looked good, but very pricey ($350+). I hope I can find something cheaper.

Illflem,

Would you happen to know if the oil lines come out of the side of the stock bracket or if they come from underneath where the stock filter screws on? If it comes from the side it should be enough clearance for my future set up. Also can you recommend where to buy it? Thanks,

Garry.

Garry the filter relocaters I've seen have a aluminum part that resembles the oil filter, but only a quarter/third as long. They have two 1/2" hose barb fittings that point straight down, but could be replaceable with 90° ones. Problem would be clearance screwing in the phony filter with anything protruding from the sides or the 90s hitting each other while screwing them in. This could be overcome by removing the filter housing, screwing the adaptor on then replacing the bracket or use barbed hydraulic swivel fittings(basically with a union built in). The relocation kits are available from many sources, if you have NAPA in BC I would suggest them. At NAPA you can usually talk to someone that knows something, not like ordering online or telephone. NAPA will usually give your money back if it won't work for you. Many performance shops can probably get one for you also. Again I suggest that you purchase from a place where you talk to someone you knows something and maybe see before you buy. Make sure the relocater will take an OEM filter, many will just take a filter that the relocater manufacturer supplies.

Another alternative if you are crafty enough or know someone with a machine shop would to be make an adaptor with threaded ports that replaces the filter housing entirely, remember you will need ports for the turbo oil. Then make a hose barb adaptor for the OEM housing. This is all very doable with just a drill press and some taps. You could come out with a great custom looking setup that could take very little room and head the hoses out in any direction you desire. I've never checked but it is very possibile that Cummins makes a relocater kit, I've seen 5. 9s used in industial situations where accessiblity is very difficult. That would be the first place I'd check. Try Cummins NW in Seattle 800-274-0336

Thanks illflem and Deezul 1 ,

I'll check out Cummins and Amsoil in the next day or two. Thanks for the phone #'s. Hopefully one of them has the solution I'm looking for.
