Well, finally got it installed. There was some talk of other members being interested in this, so I thought I would post my results. I have a Design Tech, model 20236.
If you go with the Design Tech, PM me and I will send you all the little hints, and the CORRECT wiring diagram. It took tech support four tries to get the door locks right, and tracking down a wire for the Tach input took a bit too. The box is a bit large, making it difficult to find a good mounting location, but I ended up mounting the unit under the dash, using one of the hood release screws.
Since I have a stick shift, you have to have the e-brake on, turn the unit off, on, off, on, pull the key out of the ignition and exit the truck normally (it will still be running), and then turn it off with the remote. You actually get in the habit pretty quick as the only thing different from normal is the flicking of the switch (and not leaving it in gear
).
I am really happy with the results. The only downside is if you have to get back into your truck. You have to start it with the remote and have it running, or it won't remote start. The reason is that one could put the vehicle into gear if it wasn't running.
Like I said, if anyone has any questions about it, or the wiring, let me know and I can help you out.
