remote start question

I have an 06 with mopar remote start. Recently it has been acting up, when I press the transmitter for the remote start, the panic alarm goes off. Truck then starts and stalls.



Trouble shooting guide says nothing about a panic type alarm proble... . any thoughts?

That sounds like something with the sentry key system maybe. I don't remember how the remote system overrides it though. I have the mopar remote start but i don't have a chipped key.

I'm having the problem as well. I think the issue is with the sentry key. The remote start sends a signal to a coil wrapped around the ignition key cylinder that it supposed to fake it into thinking a real key is in the ignition. If that coil comes lose, the truck thinks you are trying to start it with a fake key copy and freaks out. The dealership did a bad job installing that coil on my vehicle, and I had to redo it. Apparently I didn't make it stick so I'm going to have to redo it again.

Wow, for a moment there I thought this was on old post of mine.



I had the exact same symptoms that you have described here. Of course it happened lat winter when I really wanted to use the remote start and I'd set off the alarm first thing in the AM when the neighbors were still sleeping.



This happened a number of times (but not ever time I used the remote start). After each occurrence I'd pull codes with my Smarty ( you do have one don't you!!??) and the following two codes would be present:

Invalid SKIM KEY and

Checksum Error.



(I'm going off memory so I don't recall the actual "Pxxxx" numbers).



*I'd clear the code and sometimes it would last a week or so and other times it would recur almost instantly.



I decided to remove as many variables as I could, so step one was to replace the batteries in all the key fobs and the remote fobs. As soon as I did that the problem went away and the remote has worked just fine ever since.



Until --- last weekend when on a Snowmobile trip 250 miles away the truck just plain up and died. I had the truck towed to a dealer and they've had it for two days now. They are unable to tell me what is wrong and they are working with the factory three time zones away.

I turn the key and the engine fails to crank. Batteries are good. The sentry light on the dash blinks and makes me think that the truck thinks it's being stolen.



I don't know if the latest problem is related to the remote start issue yet or not. -- Stand by.
