Exhaust Brake

is mobil 1 atf a full synthetic?

I want to install a remote engine start on my 2005 TD. It's coming off a 2004 Envoy. My dealer says it will work. Do I have to program in a delay before cranking to allow for glow plug warmup ? How long would you recommend ? Do you know of any problems I could run into ? Thanks for your help.

Some have a timed delay that can be set if being used on a diesel. I don't know of any other options available since the dodge doesn't have a "wait to start" wire that can be tapped into for the glow plug input on the remote start. Mine is delayed for about 10 seconds and seems to work fine.

I've noticed even when it's really cold 10 is overkill but 20 isn't going to hurt.

Isn't the Grid Heater light on the dash supposed to go out before starting in order to get it's full benefit during cool to cold weather? The time it's on varies depending on outside air temperature. Might be possible to tie the starting event to this dash light.

Compustar

Has an input for wait to start light. No guessing with a timer. There have been some other good posts on the subject. Look at my posts and it will lead you to some more info on the starters.

Unless your 06 is different, on the 04 and 05 there is no wait to start wire since all the gauges are data controlled (d-max and powerstrokes have a wire). You either have to solder directly to the led on the circuit board or use a timer. I have considered trying to connect it to the grid heater relays, however since they occasionally cycle on and off while the engine is running I'm not sure if that will cause the starter to shut off, and since my timer works I currently didn't see the need to mess with it.

What is a good brand of remote starters??

DEI, Crimestopper, UltraStart, Codealarm, Clifford... the list goes on. Just stay away from the ones sold at discount stores like walmart. Those don't have all the relays in one box and take about 3 times the wiring of a good one. They all work the same way, the only real difference is the functions. Most have onboard relays for power locks, some have turbo timers, The main difference is the range and some brands offer 2 way remotes. That way the remote tells you if the doors are locked and if it's running without being able to see the car. Manual transmission models are available however unless your planning on installing it yourself most shops won't touch them. (I've only done 3 and one was on my truck, one on gf's civic, and the other was a close friend)
