Got a Compustar remote start system as a Christmas gift. Just got it installed a few days ago. Seems great so far. I haven't heard many diesel owners talk about remote start systems. Just wondering if it was a bad idea and gonna cause problems down the road or if they ar OK. It has a full lifetime warrany.

Since you have an auto, I think you're good to go. I've searched on here about that once a long time ago, and I think the main fear is having a remote start on a truck with a manual transmission. Since your's isn't a manual, you don't have to worry about wondering if you left it in neutral or not. I don't know about cold starts though, I guess if the system allows enough time for the "Wait to Start" light to go out and let the grids heat up it should be fine. Hope this helps, take care.

Best Regards.

Up here in the subzero frozen north, auto starts on all the diesel trucks, as well as the cars, is a common as ticks on a hound. Not so much on the ones with manual transmissions but they have auto starts for them also. Also have a wabesto blue flame to help preheat. Is fantastic!! With that there is no need for a auto start on mine.

From the research that I did when I wanted to get one several years ago, the Compustar brand came up as one of the most reliable. I was going to get there simple #1WAMS, but I never did end up buying it, mostly because I have a manual transmission.

Please do give details on the install if you are able...

It's been cold here in South Dakota. Below zero over night. Started great even not plugged in. I was told that it senses when the wait to start light goes out and will start after that. Seems to work. I have heard some bad stories about cheaper remote start systems causing all sorts of electrical troubles. Compustar is one of the best. My boss has had one for 6 years now on his gas powered truck without any trouble. I had a reputable shop in my area install mine so I don't know what was all involved with it or how it ties into the wiring. What is a wabesto blue flame? Never heard of that before. I don't get to park in the garage so I am always looking for ways to help start my truck and warm it up faster.

I have one on mine, a Viper I think, the remote says Viper but there is also an alarm on it, so it may just have a Viper alarm. It was on it when I bought the truck used so I'm not 100% sure its not another brand of remote starter.

Nontheless, once pressed, it seems to turn the starter over longer than its suppose to, running over into the truck actually starting and running for a split second.

I have had a DEI remote start on my truck for about 7 years now. I figured out how to hook it up to the wait to start circuit so it starts when the light goes out. No need to have a timer then. Works great. It's very nice to walk out of work and have the truck purring away at high idle when it is cold out.

Most of the remote start units have the diesel functionality of monitoring the "wait to start" signal, and do not attempt to start until that light goes out.
