Can someone give me guidance on how to hook up a hand remote (2 wire type w/ trigger button) to bump the engine over for valve adjustment? I tried attaching directly to the solenoid, but it will not cause the starter to turn over. Any thoughts?
If you are connecting your switch between the battery and the starter solenoid, it should turn over. Disconnect the existing wire at the starter first or you will be picking up the fuel shutdown solenoid too.
Howard & hsmith... I did it both ways... I tried hooking at the starter / battery power wire and the solenoid (with disconnected fuel shut off harness)... it engages the solenoid, but the starter motor does not turn over. I'm thinking that a relay needs to energize the field coils on the starter? or ?
Does the starter turn OK when you use the ignition switch? If so, maybe the push button switch isn't passing enough current to fully engage the starter solenoid. Try connecting a short piece of #12 or larger wire directly to the small post on the starter then connect it to the positive post on the battery through a heavy duty toggle switch that can carry the necessary current.
