OK, I have searched and not found what I need yet. Any help is appreciated. We have a new baby, and I would like to install a remote starter on my wife's 2009 for Christmas.

My question is - is there one out there that will work well on her truck?

It is an automatic and I will be installing myself-level of difficulty is not an issue (barring computer reprogramming)

Thanks

we got one installed on our 06 last year at our local dodge dealer. we have had no problem with it at all. i just felt a little more confident with the mopar on. i believe it cost around $400 total for parts and install.

We have had several different remote start systems on various vehicles. . With that being said, from this point forward, we will only use OEM systems. IMHO, vehicles are getting more and more interactive to the point where almost all modern cars have 2,3 even 4 computer systems talking to one another... . Last thing I need is for one of those systems to shut down or start acting a fool. .

The last aftermarket system we had installed was actually for my D. I. L. It was installed on a GM product... worked fine for awhile, then started interferring with her keyless entry system. Ended up having to disable remote start...

We currently have OEM remote start on a Mazda CX-9 and a Ford Edge. And had OEM on a Jeep GC... all have been flawless. .

You should be able to purchase the system from the parts dept. of a Dodge dealer... This stuff is usually plug and play, or very little wiring. . and should be easy to install.

Thanks for all the suggestions-I think I'm gonna go with the Mopar unit then. Don't need the wife having problems with something I installed on her truck #@$%!

I am not a big fan of remote starters. Where I am from a lot of people use them all winter long, as it does get cold up here. ( We are having a "heat wave " today as it will be sunny and a high of about 22*F. :) )

First in the winter you are still starting a cold engine. It puts a lot of extra wear and tear on the engine, it wastes fuel, and causes extra pollution. That being said not all people who have them leave their vehicle running for hours on end as some do. I would rather have an Espar, a diesel fired engine heater, and a heated seat. I have both in my Dodge. My "winter vehicle", a Jeep Cherokee, gets parked in an unheated garage, which takes the chill off the seats and keeps the windows clear from frost. If it gets really cold I will plug it in as I do at work during the day.

I have bought used vehicles with a remote already on them. It always makes me wonder how many hours or idling this engine has done. I had them set for the minimum amount of run time and used it sparingly, such as walking to the vehicle after work, so that the oil pressure was up and I could leave sooner.

When my daughter was born we did have a mini van and used the remote at times, such as when it got cold, like -20* F. I am not an enviromental mental so if you do get one please use it responsively. Shadrach

my buddy at trex said there is something funky you have to do with the key switch on the 09 and 10 trucks. he said its not really a true switch its a black box and has its own computer in it. i guess what i am trying to say is there is a data cable and no mechanical linkage or wires to splice on the steering column. I know it can be done but you might want to do some deep digging before you buy.

i just had the viper smart start installed yesterday and i am using that with my droid phone. i like it a lot. it also works with blackberry and iphone.

not sure if you have any phones like that but its something to consider...

Just curious... I went on the Dodge website and the only kit listed is for trucks without the EVS system. I have a '06 Laramie with the chipped key (EVS). Does anyone know of a kit that will work on my truck?

Thanks!
Gene

we have the mopar one on our 06, as i stated in above post and we have a chipped key. i would just contact your local dealer and talk to them.

If distance means anything to you, you will go with the Compustar. I use to keep my truck in a steel barn 40 yards away from the house, and i could start the truck from inside the house.

Stick

i just put in an application for directed electronics to sell security systems and remote start. if i get to do this i will get all sorts of support and will get the info for you. I am not sure how long it will take for the to decide if i can sell/install for them.

I have a DEI Python security system with remote start (RS) in my truck. I would not hesitate to put another one is a new truck. I have had mine since new and use remote start EVERY day. Several points need to be made since they are probably not obvious:

1. Remote start is pretty useless for heating up a diesel for passenger comfort. You need engine RPM load for the heater to start working. It IS however GREAT for cooling the truck down in the summer.

2. Most RS systems have a programable run time and will stop after that time is reached. (usually 10-15 or so of minutes)

3. RS can be used to keep the truck running while you leave it for a few minutes with the doors locked. You can also use this feature as a cool-down for the turbo and shut it down when you reach earshot of the engine running or get to the door.

4. These trucks come with over-crank sensors, once the truck fires the starting circuit is stopped. RS crank using the CPS is not needed.

5. The RS needs to use the wait light signal to start the engine.
