Has anyone installed a remote trans oil filter? Which brand? Did you plumb hot oil to cooler first, or to remote filter? Had one on my old Diesel Blazer, it worked great.

I don't know if you were on the old Cummins Diesel Website, but Craig Scholl in Texas was selling an external filter kit. There was post on "General Diesel Topics" by MikeR, asking for his e-mail address. MikeR, if you do get Craig's address, maybe you can forward it to MassMan.

Hey, I'm back! Got cut off the list somehow the other day when it shot craps, re-registered, still couldn't make it work, now it does, no idea what happened. Anyway, here is a reponse to a remote trans filter post.

I put mine on my 97 ram a couple of years ago, & have had very good luck with it. I bought one from "Jeggs" racing cagalog, but sent it back because the in/out holes were so small I thought it would restrict flow. I went to Tractor Supply, and bought a wood splitter return filter & housing with 3/4" pipe threads in & out. (about $20 bucks) I bought 3/4" to 1/2" barb fittings & used good, wide hose clamps, & added. The housing has a directional flow arrow & check valve. The filter is for hydraulics, & filters 20 GPM at 10 micron. I mounted it on the driver's side, on the cross member behind the front bumper, in the rubber line going to the hot side of the cooler. (See poor photo, looking straight up) The housing also has a port for my oil temp probe, I ran it through an "on-on" switch, another probe in the port at the top of the engine oil filter housing gives me two readings on the same gauge, I just toggle to which ever one I want to watch... .....
