A friend of mine(well just met him)said that if you remove the resonator/muffler you will gain MPG and a little power to boot. Only downside is it will be a little louder. Said he could do it for 160. 00. . If this is true it may be a little cheaper then a 4 inch Exhaust... Has anyone done this or heard of it? Thanks RC;)

Whatch out

Just cut both off mine off and replace them with a 3" performance muffler, 109$ total. 160$ to remove it..... that's steep dude! You can buy the strait pipe kit from Geno's for less than that. Go check at your local muffler shop too, see how much they want.

Had mine removed and a straight pipe installed for 75. 00 at a local muffler shop. Egt's dropped around 100 degrees but can't say i saw a fuel mileage increase.

Summit has the Walker 21468 for about $46. It is a glass pack muffler and with about a 4 ft piece of 3" pipe it works out pretty well. Not to loud. I didn't notice any great performance increase but felt it improved mileage. Haven't really done a real comparison just watched the trip computer. Took me an afternoon and I removed the old muffler and resonator in one piece, just in case I had to put them back on.

 I started out by having my resonator removed and It sounded just like it did stock. I then had a "glasspack" muffler put on to replace the stock muffler. It was a little louder at idle but not noticeable on the highway. Recently, I had the "glasspack" muffler removed, so now it's a straight open exhaust. I noticed an immediate improvement in all around engine performance. Boost went up about 2. 5-3. 0 lbs. EGT's have come down about 500 degrees and it spools up much faster. It is a little loud at idle but hardly noticeable at cruising speed! Try it you'll like it! Sam

whoh mister!

"Friend" is not a word you will most likely use to describe this gentleman in the future! As a matter of fact, I stopped by a local chain muffler ship this afternoon to price shop the same procedure. Was quoted $45-$70 depending on if hangers are involved in welding in the new 3" straight pipe where the muffer & resonator used to be. Please keep shopping!!!!

$160 is waaaayyyyy too much $$$$

I just had my resonator and muffler removed in one piece and replaced with 3" straight pipe. Total paid was $40 at the local muffler shop.

I like that it's louder than stock, but the tone is too "muddy" so I'll be putting a hi-flow muffler in there. Looking at Magnaflow, Flowmaster, and Borla.

???????

Does removeing the resanator and muffler voide the warrenity? Just wandering eney info is apper, and the silencer , does removeing it void warrenity?

My truck has a Performance 3' Muffler(Rhino 911) with a extention pipe. I love it and don't have the turbo lag of bigger exhaust. It costed me $189 canadian which is vertually free in us funds. :D

I did mine for less than $30, and use a piece of Aluminized pipe. Just take the clamps off after the muffler and in front of the Res. (U may have to do some grinding, and lots of prying. ) I had measured the size pipe ahead of time, and had a muffler shop flare the ends for me, and we sliped the new pipe on. This way I can install my factory set if I ever had too. (Like that is ever going to happen. ) (On mine I installed a 9in single chambered flowmaster muffler that I had been holding on to for a few years, but I have installed them without the mufflers too. )

Good Luck

Bryan

If you have a place to store your old muffler and CAT hang on to it. . or don't let the Muffler shop keep it, they are making money one the old CAT and Muffler. . (At least off the newer trucks. . I see U have a 2002. )

Oh, yea. . your fuel mileage will drop for a little while. . (maybe not since it is winter. ) but it returns when you get used to the sweat sounds from the pipe, and get your foot out of the Radiator. . hahaa. . :D You'll love it...

As far as I know removing the exhaust will not affect your warranty. I had my muffler removed and straight piped, we left the resonator in place and they charged $50. The sound is nice and not too loud. I'm glad I left the resonator in because of the dreaded "drone". EGT's are down, and turbo spool-up has decreased 50% I also removed the silencer ring. Even my wife likes the sound now, however, it is louder in the back seat. Would do it again in a second!!

I just went to the muffler shop and had them make a piece of 3 inch pipe with flared ends and two pipe clamps for $25, then removed cat and muff myself and installed pipe. The muffler shop asked if it was to replace the cat and muff on a Ram Cummins, I said yes. They said it needed a bend and knew were it needed to be, so they bent it as well. great place! Sure sounds nice ;) and the turbo spools up quicker. :D

$160????

Stright pipe it, muffler, resonator, and all. I love it!! I am also 21 so there's almost no such thing as too loud. I nor my girfriend find it loud though. I got mine removed, and a 3" pipe weilded in place for $48!:D Can't beat that with a stick!!!
