removed abs junk. brake light on dash on

decided to overhaul my rear brakes on the 93. upgraded to the 3 inch shoes and bypassed the abs thingy on the frame. HOLY SMOKE!!!! my brakes actually work! before i always had a spongy pedal. truck stopped good before but now the abs is bypassed i have a good firm pedal and truck stops 100% better. i highly recommend to everyone that still has the abs hooked up to bypass it! best thing i have done to this truck!!





but, here is the problem:

i disconnected the plug from the abs controller behind the glove box and now the brake light is always on in the cluster. i made sure my e brake was all the way up. what would cause this warning light to stay on? it's not a big deal but when i plow at night(if it ever snows here) it's going to annoy the heck out of me. maybe a strip of eletric tape will solve the problem:-laf

The controller is disconnected from the harness so it thinks it has problems. Removal of bulb is the typical fix. or black tape for a temp solution.

Did you use larger wheel cylinders as well?

didnt upgrade the wheel cylinders. thats my next project. i need to get my grid heater functioning properly first. when below 35* it wont operate untill i start the truck. then i comes on. going to pull the sensors in the intake and check those first. although i suspect its the ecm.



for the wheel cylinders: i read somwhere to use chevy cylinders. is this true? which ones?

got the bulb pulled. right above the heater controls there is a light bulb just floating around not connected to anything. there are 2 wires going to it. green with a white tracer and blue with white tracer. what does this bulb go to? same type of bulb that is in the cluster.

You could have just looped the wire to gether it would of thought all was normal .

My ABS never worked that i know of never had a light on either , But i helped a guy on a 96 one time and we just pulled the plunger out of the abs and all was fine

When i disconnected mine all the lights were out, must have gotten lucky. Definitely a HUGE improvement. Going do to the wheel cylinders and shoes this summer. I also need to redo the fittings, just can't seem to get them tight enough. It's always a little wet with fluid. Not enough to drip but still.

Easiest fix would be disconnect the module behind the glovebox. It is a black box about the size of a deck of cards.

ABS light will also light if the low vacuum sensor is activated. May be a problem with sensor below the driver's side hood hinge.

They are a GM wheel cylinder application. and are quite larger than stock. I did not measure them. These were given to me by Dave Valentine. GregH

Your loose wire above the cluster probably went to the courtesy light that is no longer, usually directly above the cluster. Unless, it's the 4 wheel indicator bulb... .....

ohhh, didnt check 4x4. its not the courtsy light. that works just fine. kept burning myself on it trying to get the dash off! might be the ash tray but i couldnt get it to come on.

anyone have any tips to remove door panel? i got it off but it was a pain in the *****! popped off the clips, took out the screws. but what about the door handle? how do you get the panel past the handle? i reached behind the panel and unbolted it from the latch. i dont think ill be able to reinstall it that way. any tips?

Unbolt the handle before you pull the panel. The silver handle just unbolts from the mechanism. Use a screw driver behind the lever to hold it open while you unbolt the handle. Put it back on the same way with a screw driver to hold th elever out and bolt handle on.
