Well, my wife didn't like the noise of the AFE mege cannon (it was loud) so I pulled it along with the TAG. Here's what I noticed after three months of running these two.
I picked up about 1 mpg when towing with this combo. It seems like if you're hauling a load (i. e. you're pouring the fuel to it) the extra air-flow helps out. It also had a little more mid-range zip... . not much. . but a little. The bottom end seemed to suffer though. I use to impress people with the ability to launch the truck from a dead stop in third gear... . at an idle. If you where real smooth with the clutch it wouldn't even stumble.
With the TAG and AFE it would almost stall if I tried that. I don't know if there was too much air for the amount of fuel or what. it just didn't want to take off in third gear.
After removing the dynamic duo I can take off in third again. I don't do this very often but the point is that bottom end torque is back with the stock filter and no TAG.
It takes all of 15 minutes to change these two items out so I guess when we're ready to tow again I'l put them back on. Just thought it was interesting how the added air flow effected the performance of the Cummins. Looks like those engineers do their homework before putting something on the market.
