Hey guys! Quick question for ya. I had to declass (remove my Edge J/A) my truck today to bring it to the dealer for some warranty work. I took everything out. My question is this. Prior to earlier trips to the dealer I've always taken the Pyro thermocouple probe out, removed the fitting and plugged it with a 1/8 NPT pipe plug. I don't like this method because i'm afraid one day the plug is gonna fall through or fall out because it doesn't fit snug. So, this time, I took the thermocouple probe out and plugged the fitting with a 1/4" flared brass pipe cap. The fit is very good but I'm a little bit worried about the tempreture the brass cap will have to endure. Do you think the cap will be able to withstand 90 miles of 600+ degrees? I think so but I just wanted to send a shout out to someone that might know for sure.

Thanks!!

I have plugged the manifold with a brass plug, for long periods of time, haven't ever had an issue. I used brass because I couldn't find pipe plug with a shoulder on it to keep it from going into manifold.

Why bother, the plug is a red flag anyway. If you really want to try and fool them at least leave the thermocouple and say you haven't finished installing the gauge for it yet.

That is why I went with a totally separate gauge setup. When I go in, the box comes out and the gauges are there for them to see and not given the chance to assume anything else.

I see yours is an EZ, I don't find many that have the Juice without Attitude which is what I may install. I like the knob and separate gauges.

Matt400, I see your point but I can still think of a thousand excuses why I have a plugged hole in exhaust manifold. However, I don't have any excuses if I leave the J/A in. The name of the game is forcing them to prove you have one.

More like is your wallet bigger than there's.

It depends on what issues you are taking it in for on what type of fact finding search will take place :-laf

Had the truck at the dealer yesterday and heres the follow up to the post. Had it in for the door seals replacement and an engine tick. Had the velcro and pyro plug in and no questions.

My dealer has never questioned my pillar mounted gauges and the service adviser just smiled when he saw the velcro strips. On my second visit to the dealer I just left the Edge on the fuse box and the service advisor didn't say anything. I found out later he was an "old drag racer" so we had something in common.

Last time I checked an egt probe shouldn't void the warranty. It is the factory's fault for not giving us one from the start.

it is even advised for heavy towing... . right in the instruction manual

you really think your fooling anyone? think they are that foolish? if you bomb it, you should pay for anything that fails from it. why should dodge pay for the extra hp you just put into it. I was taught "you play you pay" .

You're missing the point. Some dealers will see the box and void your warranty right then and there. First of all, that's wrong in general. Second, that means that if something COMPLETELY unrelated to it, say, the motor for the power seat, goes south, then they won't fix it because you have no longer have a warranty. That's complete bull****. Even if the engine suffers a failure they should have to prove it was a direct result of the box before denying the claim. If you have the time and the money to fight them, you can force this issue in court but most times it's simply cheaper to suck it up and pay for it yourself.

I agree, if you stack mods onto a truck with a stock transmission and completely destroy it as a result, you should not be able to get it fixed under warranty. I think most would agree with this. It's the blanket cancellation of the warranty without any justification that causes so many of us heartburn.

Can you tell me who that happened to or are you just repeating what you have heard?

I have the full gauge set with a muffler and an intake. I've never had any type of module on. I bought it in to have them fix a steering pump that locked up. And I complained about issues that made them look at my fuel systems. The dealer did not say a word about my modifications. If I had blown up my motor then I would imagine that a more serious effort would have been made to determine the cause, including modifications.

My point is that the dealer could assume that I had a module because of the gauges, but they didn't.

When I had my 04. 5, I had the Juice/Attitude. I kept a pyro guage in the truck in case I broke down on the road. I used the little bullet mount from geno's and velcroed it to the steering column. I had to take my truck in last winter for a leaking CP3 so I removed the J/A and installed the pyro guage. They replaced the CP3 no questions asked.

My 06 has no box. I installed boost and egt guages. I take it in to the same dealer for an oil leak. They tell me it's a CP3 leak. I tell them I want my truck back because the CP3 can't leak oil. At that point they beg me to come in, put it on the rack, and show them what I think it is. The tech grilled me 3 times about having a box. He thought for sure I had a box since I had intake/exhaust/guage upgrades.

With the help of these forums, I came in the next morning and showed them exactly what was leaking. Since then, they have been EXTREMELY nice to me. They are worried I am going to give them a bad review on the survey I still haven't gotten. The tech that grilled me about the box wasn't allowed to work on my truck. A different (and much friendlier) tech had it fixed that day. He was the one that installed the CP3 on my 04. 5. He was a very cool guy. Now I know who to have work on my truck.

I leave everything plugged in and installed. I had my '02 serviced a three different dealers across the country and no problems. I once had a mechanic tell me some of the "things" I have installed on my truck could void the warranty and I responded: "This is my 7th Dodge and depending on how I'm treated will dtermine if there will be an 8th". There was an 8th one.

I'm straight up with them and they have been staight up with me (so far). That's the way I do business and that's the way I want others to do business with me.

No first hand experience, but there have been stories of dealers either doing this or threatening to do so here and on other forums.
